So is being a Liberal something to be ashamed of or proud of? |
|
It is hard to tell any more... I have always been proud of being Liberal but it would appear many Democrats would disagree with me on it.

4. Apparently it depends on what kind of liberal you are |
|
Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 10:53 AM by whatchamacallit
there are some here who identify themselves as liberals, yet seem to have no problem supporting a president who continues and expands some of the worst conservative positions and policies.

6. "Love Me, I'm a Liberal" |

applied to people who self identified as Liberals--or Democrats--but only up to a certain point. Principle got sacrificed to money or old fashioned bigotry all too often by such people.

7. I dunno. I've been calling myself a Liberal for many years. |
|
Some would probably dispute that, I suppose. Doesn't matter to me.

8. Being a liberal remains something of which to be proud |
|
Being a fucking moron who can't tell the difference between Obama and Bush however is something I suspect most Democrats, and heck most humans, would consider something of which one should be deeply ashamed. I don't think an awful lot of Democrats confuse the two.

10. Well, I used to scorn liberals as being too moderate. |
|
But now liberals are scorned for being too leftist -- but then, moderates are also scorned for being too leftist. So it's just so hard to tell. ;-)

12. Somehow i became a liberal, even though im a moderate |
|
I always have been, well ok moving to europe has made me go a little left, but my ideas are still a balance between free market, and whats best for the bottom classes.
that happens to be national health care (with a for-pay system if you want to pay for exclusivity) and the acceptance of a permanent non-working class (some people can't, won't, or shouldn't work), and steel fisted tax collection on anyone or thing (corporations) making in excess of a million dollars net!
I would also make illegal the ownership of US (news) media, who is NOT american born/naturalized, AND living here.
Own a paper? you better be a fucking citizen. Own fox news? your ass is going to jail murdoch!
I would not bring back the fairness doctrine, but enforce a limitation on the number of hours you can have such vitriol on the airwaves.
A conservative station won't want air america programming -fair enough, but they cant run more than 6 hours of hate-talk a day (right of center being one thing, but falling of the chart is another)
but im a cray leftist now a days for wanting some measure of equality - that being an equal say, and an equal chance to fail OR succeed.
oh yeah, and a full ride at least through the 2nd year of college or trade school.

14. For every step Dems take toward the center |
|
The Rethugs take two steps farther right. Then they redefine what "center" means and start all over again. We're a "CH" away from being fascist already.
So I call myself a Liberal when I need to but I now know that we all need to become radical left wingers, Communists, Socialists and rabble-rousers just to maintain the political equilibrium. Lord knows the idiots in DC aren't smart enough to put 2 and 2 together.

15. i'm happy to identify myself that way |
|
I know it's an over simplification, but I've alway thought that in general people vote conservative either because of religious beliefs or because they think that it is in their personal self interest. People vote liberal because they think it is in society's best interest.
Another thing I noticed is that the right wing propaganda machine is working to demonize the term 'progressive' like they did 'liberal.' I have seen at least 4 references lately where some right-winger refers to the 'liberal progressive movement.'
