Why I am not concerned about Gibb's statement |
|
It was a dumb statement and one that he seemed to forget his position. I found it interesting how fast he came out to change it, which tells me the President gave him a chewing out and told him to fix it. Also I have to wonder now after reading all the threads and statements here if maybe he might have had a point in what he was saying. It made me stop and evaluate my experience as a progressive talk show host and how I have watched the Progressive community here in Phoenix divide and stop supporting our own.
I had a successful radio show on KPHX when it was the flagship station of Nova M Radio Network, and before that I had garnered a wonderful support from Progressives as I worked to help people in the Katrina area. Today I have 2 of those people that I hear from, I watched as Newcomb sabotaged Jeff Farias and even a woman I once respected told people that if you were friends of Jeff or Sarge you couldn't be their friends. I saw Jeff try to get a progressive show on KXXT a christian station and did so, but when those who had promised support were told that a progressive show should be on a progressive station not a christian station (this if before Newcomb started KPHX back up but was trying to do so) then instead of living up to that promise, they withdrew support leaving Jeff stuck with the bill.
I watched as we tried to establish a progressive network and had 3 affiliates but yet the support came mainly from a handful of people which wasn't enough to cover the expense. I got concerned as I heard people call in to tell me that Obama hasn't done anything and when I pointed to some good things that he had done, they got angry and yelled well that isn't enough. They would accuse me of not disagreeing with Obama although I had stated things I was not happy about, but they didn't care, they wanted to bash Obama.
In the meantime while all this was going on, Joe Arpaio won another election, which I am sure Newcomb's statement a month before the election that he liked Joe, that he didn't have a problem with Joe and when a caller asked about Saban (ran against Arpaio) Newcomb responded Oh is he running? Even though Saban was spending a good amount advertising on the station even during Newcomb's show the ads ran. Also during that time we saw Democrats lose office here in Arizona and birthers take their place enabling the passage of SB1070 and other horrible laws.
We took our eyes off the goal and started fighting among ourselves, dividing our forces and the extremist on the right undid all the good we had done. I think it is time we start looking at the goal and work to make things better instead of dwelling on some stupid statement that really is a compliment to us for our presents in the ear of the President.

1. clearly all of this chatter about Gibbs is actively being exploited |
|
. . . by those who have no interest at all in seeing this administration succeed (right along with those expressing predictable and understandable outrage over his insults). We need to keep our perspective as we correctly reject Gibb's divisive comments. This administration is not the opposition. I think some folks have forgotten just what that opposition looks like. Surprising, after such a long slog with Bush.

I have heard Obama and others in the admin. state truism about them. Just because Obama doesn't follow everything we want doesn't mean he isn't listening. I think the admin. could make better use of Progressive voices, but when the CoC spends a billion a day to discredit Obama, when wall street refuses money to Democrats because they are upset with Obama, when the Banks gripe about new regulations on them, I have to wonder if maybe Obama is doing more than we credit him.

I stated we had 3 affiliates but we had 4. We were carried in Texas, Mississippi, Kentucky and Sweden.

5. I am much more upset about |
|
the cut in food stamps when so many need them. Getting out of the wars. Getting jobs for our people without the most needy among us being compromised by it. Stopping the rise of hatred in our country against ethnic and religious groups. Banished Veterans.
Yep I think they need more attention than some stupid statement by Gibbs.
