Claim was made that NJ provides Medicaid to people with incomes up to $80,000.

They're also saying only certain states are getting the money and why should states that manage their money well have to subsidize states that do not? Does the "jobs bill" support teachers and firemen only in certain states or all states?

Also, in re: bailout: "the concern about offshore accts being taxed was more for businesses than individuals . . .if you raise taxes too much on businesses they will take their business elsewhere and country will be left with even greater unemployment. Businesses hire the people, so if you tax them too much they will go take jobs someplace else. "

1. Businesses are not going to go somewhere else.

Governments around the world are doing what they can to increase revenue tightening loopholes that businesses have used to avoid paying their fair share of taxes. the economic crisis is worldwide, there is no where for businesses to go. They have been using that 'threat' for decades and it is far past the time for our government and citizens to stand up to them and demand that they be responsible members of the community.

I don't know about NJ tho. The aid to states is needed. Those opposing such aid are hoping the states are forced to lay off workers and abandon pension plans for government workers. Which ultimately would be devastating for the economy, more people unemployed, not paying taxes, not paying mortgages, unable to retire after laboring years under the promise of a pension. Are we to work people until they die? The private sector is not hiring, where will these people find work? Anyone championing more layoffs is not looking at the larger picture.

2. "Businesses hire the people"

It's less about the taxes and more about the wages. We had to listen to these crappy talking points from our former repug governor (who is now the president of the National Assoc. of Manufacturers). He drained the treasury, ran up a $4 bil deficit, and gave all of the money to his friends in business who left the state anyway. When our new Dem governor tried to keep Electrolux in the state by offering them 0 tax liability for so many years, they said "no thanks" and moved to Mexico. We simply cannot compete with wages that are 1/10th of ours. Also, ask them how many jobs bush created in 8 years. The answer will most likely sound like this: "a lot".
Tell them the truth, when bush was bragging about creating 33,000 jobs in one month, he was 90,000 short of demand.

Re: the jobs bill? Red states have the highest deficits in the country. AZ is numero uno. So, it would be the blue states supporting the red states. Then agree with them and say "why should Dems who manage their money well support the teabagger states?"
