15. no, i was just shocked to see him ill. i have seen him
on the tube fairly recently and had no idea he was sick. like others have said here, i did not always agree with him but i appreciated his passion. this is really just too sad.

it seems to me that a lot of people lately have died from either pancreatic cancer or brain cancer. i think we are killing ourselves with chemicals.

3. I'd trust his word if I were you.
His condition is a verified fact.
Also, the link isn't working.

4. Try again, worked for me
Radiation and chemo are not beauty treatments. He really doesn't look bad, all things considered, and this might buy him some good writing and lecturing time. That's the hope, at any rate, and there is a chance for it.

In the meantime, he's nearly flattened by the side effects. It's very courageous of him to speak like this.

5. One rarely recovers from EC. It's a nasty tumor that's....
... usually metastasized by the time it's detected.

Perhaps Mr.H can defy the odds. I hope so.

6. That's what happened to my Dad
Within 5 months of being diagnosed with esophageal cancer, they found it had metastasized to his brain.

But he's a real tough customner; if anyone can defy the stats it would be him, I'm thinking.

Sorry about your dad.

14. Same thing with my BF's uncle. Took a little longer but
did go the brain. I have read that only 5% survive for more than five years after diagnosis.

Hitchens can drive you crazy at time, but this makes me very sad. I hope he will beat the statistics.

10. I've always had a love/hate thing with that man.
Even though he had some pretty off the way opinions on some things that made my teeth zing I liked his abrasive snooty style.

He's not always that smart, but usually intelligent.

I am sorry to see him, or anyone, suffer from this terrible thing.

11. Oh, he's always been a great read
but there have been many times I could have throttled him with a smile on my face. I also felt a certain amount of self righteous glee when Galloway called him "a gin soaked popinjay" during their debates over the Iraq War, with Hitch on the wrong side.

However, his is still a voice I don't want silenced. Any time he can gain from going through hell now will be a gift to us all.

12. he gets teased a lot about alcoholism, but seeing as it is a disease
I find it a bit below the belt to make fun of someone who is suffering from a disease.

It wouldn't be proper to make fun of his new one.

13. Oy. one suspects that the booze and cigars finally caught up with him. Sorry, Hitch.
I haven't always agreed with the man, but I certainly wish him the best for whatever time he has left.
