In the early 70's I had a buddy who worked the burial detail at Fort Meyer.
(He always kidded me that if I had been 6' 2" and blond, I, too, could have been part of the Honor Guard instead of a ground pounder.) In any case, they kept the 3rd Herd pretty busy with dead snuffies in those days. My friend told me that his detail had a standard mantra when a GI was lowered into the ground. It went like this, "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Let's cover this prick (or cunt, or douche) and get on the bus." If that was good enough for a dead grunt, it's good enough for Jerry Fucking Falwell.

I rejoice in no man's death, and I grieve for Falwell's wife and children. But the upcoming wingnut beatification of an individual who became wealthy by preaching hatred and intolerance is a bit more than I can stomach. He's dead and that is a shame.

Now, let's cover this prick and get on the bus.

4. I see something good in all this vitriol; a fighting spirit
Dems have been accused of bringing a knife to a gun fight. I also think we are seeing the result of a lot of pent up frustration and anger over all the bullshit that has gone down since the beginnings of the so-called "moral majority" that we seem to been impotent to do anything about.

I just hope some of this energy can be directed to kick puke ass in '08

5. I'm trying to avoid vitriol, while at the same time eschewing hypocrisy.
Not sure whether or not I succeeded.
