Okay, I didn't dig Jerry's panache for scapegoating other people... |
|
But my condolences DO go out to his family for their loss.
He's still a human and far worse ones get respect for some reason.

3. It's hard to think of someone far worse than Falwell |
|
He was terrible man who harmed millions of people.
I feel sorry for his family but that's the extent of my sympathy.

6. I know nothing of his fmaily or their beliefs. |

Indeed, Ronald Reagan had a son; the proverbial black sheep.
Anything's possible.

7. Anything is possible, but unfortunately unlikely |

Both of his sons are involved in the family business. Right from Falwell's bio at liberty.edu (I need a shower now)
Two sons, Jerry Falwell, Jr., Attorney, Vice-Chancellor of Liberty University, Lynchburg, Va. and Jonathan Falwell, Attorney and Executive Pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church, Lynchburg Va.

And rest assured, I won't be going there any time soon. I read their web page list of qualifiers. For "liberty", their list of restrictions is too ghastly to contemplate. A pity; I'd love to find out what they mean by "liberty". Maybe later. Especially when they live in a town called "Lynchburg" - yeesh. Hardly love-affirming by any measure; sounds like a place (400 years ago) where the citizens had ritual lynchings...

8. I won't deny his verbal jabs and scapegoating influenced other people. |
|
But I do not recall an incident where he personally maimed another human being.
Like I said, he said a lot of things I don't agree with. But he had the right to say them as much as we have the right to say the things we do.
My OP was meant to say I feel sympathy for his family.
As for people who are worse than Falwell, there are plenty. One near-modern day example is Charles Manson: Who would give his family solace when he dies? Look what he did. Vicious. Utterly vicious.
