Senate passes Feingold-Collins Resolution for Genocide Prevention
Senate Passes Resolution Calling For Greater Genocide Prevention Efforts

On August 5, 2010 Senators Feingold (D-WI) and Collins (R-ME) introduced a concurrent resolution in support of genocide and mass atrocity prevention on the part of the U.S government. GI-NET, along with various other humanitarian and anti-genocide groups, supports this initiative.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 71 calls for United States leadership and actions towards preventing future genocides, and the U.S national interest in “supporting and encouraging efforts to develop a whole of government approach to prevent and mitigate such acts.”

S.Con.Res.71 will serve to further recommendations made by the Genocide Prevention Task Force Report, which outlined 34 recommendations for the U.S. to improve its response to genocide. Information about the GPTF report and the recommendations are available here.

The resolution has been referred to the Committee on Foreign Relations. We will update with more information as it progresses. The full text of S.Con.Res.71 is available here and GI-NET's response can be downloaded here: http://www.genocideintervention.net/sites/default/files/imce/Senate%20Concurrent%20Resolution%2071.pdf
