Texas Senate barely blocks vote on VoterID... pugs tried to pull another "fast one"...
And got their ass handed to them...

Democrats barely blocked consideration of a voter identification bill Tuesday in the Texas Senate.

Democrats scraped up enough votes only after a shouting match over whether a key senator's vote was counted -- and the just-in-time appearance of a senator with the stomach flu.

Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst brought the bill up right after the morning prayer and the introduction of the doctor of the day, when minor legislation is usually considered.

Democratic senators seemed to be taken by surprise, asking the sponsor a few questions before allowing the vote on whether to further consider the measure.

...

The final vote -- the second time -- was 20-to-11.

Democrats vowed weeks ago to block the bill requiring voters to produce photo identification or two other forms of non-photo identification at a polling place. They say it could lead to discrimination against the elderly and minorities.

4. The stomach flu?
Senator Carl Uresti is recovering from a liver transplant and is staying near the Capitol, against his doctor's orders, in order to vote to defeat this bill!

7. Thanks for the correction!
I misunderstood a blog posting and when I read that Uresti had been vomiting, I just assumed he was the one with the liver transplant. You know what they say when you assume something . . . :hi:

6. Oh I am so glad to hear this
This is a pet issue of mine since my mom was a disenfranchised voter when MO passed its voter ID law. These are evil laws. Keep on fighting the good fight in Texas and keep us updated on the progress.
