Rachel shows why having openly gay people in places of power matters
She had an utterly brilliant, and heartbreaking show on DADT tonight. Captain Jonathan Hopkins, Cadet Katherine Miller, and Lt Col Victor Fehrenbach with his attorney were given most of her hour in three seperate segments to explain what DADT did to them. I can't think of any other news show that would have done this. She has been the go to reporter on this unlike say Anderson Cooper and Shepard Smith to name two closeted reporters. I was very outspoken in wanting a gay cabinet member and this is part of the reason why. I know that we have straight allies. And some of them are even as passionate as we are (I think of MuseRider on DU and Gov Patterson of NY for examples of this) but sometimes it really does take a gay person as Rachel showed.

but civil rights, period.

We pulled on similar crap with colored troops back in the day. Hell, colored troops were not allowed to serve in the Navy beyond things like oh cooks... these days they are in command positions.

The same has to happen for LGBT. I am starting to conclude that al that we heard in the campaign was sound and fury, signifying nothing. (At least as far as this policy is concerned)

7. It's absolutely insane! It really makes one wonder about the creditability of the
decision making process in this country as it blunders its way along in many things, and this is not an Obama bash... I'm just talking about in general over the years. Some really really stupid decisions have been made by the US, this is just one more of them in my book.

10. It''s senseless, wasteful and cruel.
Everyone loses, even the most vile homophobes, although they are too consumed with hatred to think rationally.
