Rachel Maddow had an interesting conversation about how both Democrats and Republicans use fear of the other side to drive politics. A tactic I've seen used here a million times
Really, when any political entity starts using fear of the "dreaded other" to drive people to the polls, it is bad for government and bad for people. We have seen this outcome in regime after horrific regime throughout history.
Don't let fear drive your political decisions.
Also, as Maddow later said, the best way to drive people's political decisions to expend the energy, the political capital, do the right thing and win their respect. That is what truly makes government of, by and for the people.
