The toilet has been flushed |
|
and the inexorable forces of the water are exerting their pressures against the Country. We will either emerge as a Progressive society, dedicated to the health and welfare of the individuals who make up the populus (exceedingly unlikely), or as a crypto-fascist distatorship wherein Social Darwinism in extremis will be the order of the day, including but not limited to shootings and assasinations of individuals on a daily basis (extremely likely).
Yeah..I know, I'm a naysayer and a cynic. And it's just another gloom and doom DU post...and it's 'the sky is falling'...
Well, it is falling...if you don't think so, ask yourself what happened between Grant Park Election Night and today.

and the water is flooding the house.
And the clog is Corporate influence on government.

just the longest string of positive - OK, progressive - legislation in history. And that in the face of knee-jerk GOP obstructionism.
Get a grip.
on edit: replaced word.

5. Most of that legislation has been tempered to suit the desires of the corporate |
|
class. They threw a bone but will little real meat to feed the hunger.
I just re-read Matt Taibbi's excellent piece on our "financial reform" legislation. It could and should have been reform but instead it was a half ass attempt just like health care and just like the tax increases on the rich-which don't even go up to pre-Bush amounts.

8. The GOP didn't think twice about ramming their disastrous policies |
|
down our throats yet we should be expected to work in a bi-partisan manner aimed at not reversing the damage? The stakes are too high, imho.

7. We had a good chance until SCOTUS and Citizens United |
|
Average citizens simply have no way to fight unlimited corporate dollars buying and funding candidates to deliver custom legislation/regulation on order.
We will be a nation with the extrememly wealthy and the wage slave hanging on by a bare thread with polluted water everywhere, driving on toll roads, policed by private security forces answerable to no one, all our communications monitored, while we munch on genetically modified Frankenfood dipped in animal byproducts.
If young people are smart, they will become multi-lingual and get the hell out while the getting is good. I am thinking just love your family and friends and do the best you can. I am just about at the george Carlin stage where I just renounce any interest in politics or the process because it is now literally swimming in a cesspool.
The United States as we know it died with that decision. I thought Kelo was bad, giving the state the right to seize private property and give it to another private entity - I had no idea what else they had in store.

Actually, I'm cynical when sober & very mystical when nicely buzzed.
Have you ever looked a large picture of the spiral Milky Way Galaxy? It does look like water going down the crapper, doesn't it?
Cheer up - 12/21/2012 will be here before you know it. We'll know by the next morning whether we're drowning or scrubbing :toast:
