On The Fence - DU's Greatest List of All |
|
I just discovered this. There's a list of the threads for which the recommendations and unrecommendations are almost equal. If you go to the Greatest Page, then click "Top Tens" near the top of the lists there, you'll find the On The Fence list on the right side of the resulting page. The percentage of recommendations and unrecommendations is shown there for each thread on the list. In all cases they're about evenly split.
Most of these threads don't appear elsewhere on the Greatest Page lists. Some of them are among the most interesting threads from the past 24 hours. It's a list where you can find the most controversial threads of the day, if that sort of thing interests you. Some of DU's most active posters can be found in those threads, along with some of the most boring. You can make your own decisions about which are which.
If you like to see controversy in action and get an idea of how well the rec/unrec system works, the On The Fence list is where you'll find the very best of it. The most spirited discussions on DU appear in that list.

6. yep, there's lot of things we all miss. I love that page. Good job pointing it out for people who |
|
might not know it's there.
I like informative posts, even if I already know them.
I made a post the other day that said going up to your browser's address bar (where the WWW. line is at) and highlight over what's there, and then type what you're looking for, say, "definition du jour", it will bring up the relevant page with the definition of "du jour". That is so cool.

7. Thanks. Yeah, there are lots of things like that. |
|
If you know about them, it's easy to think that everyone knows about them. Heck, I made a lot of my living writing tips about software programs. Even the simplest things got a great response from readers. Stuff you'd think everyone knew. Life's funny that way. Sometimes what seems obvious is brand new information for many people.
