Yup, it's a Falwell post.
I hated Falwell too, big time. But I'm not dancing. While Falwell was an old decrepit POS moron, spewing nothing but hate, his audience of believers was somewhat captive. He only held audience with important people and got his soundbytes in front of the masses one way: money from their conservative base elevating his status of importance. $200 million yearly taken in by the Falwell Ministries. A lot of influence mind you, much of which was, and will continue to be rolled into electing conservative Republican officials.
Now he's gone. Okay. The head of the hydra is off. Two will grow back: Jonathan and Jerry, Jr. Both running parts of the ministries already, both lawyers (sorta like the Phelps gang, oddly enough).
Sr found hate, but these two boys were born into it. They'll hold their tongues better, but the intent will be there.
Back to the money. How much more can they expect in donations directly related to his passing? A lot. Tributes, "In Remembrance" and blah blah. Hell, after the comments Falwell made about 9/11, what happened? Jonathan sent out donation requests to the members as "Votes of Confidence" bequests. And you know what? They fucking GOT them.
With Jonathan running the Thomas Road Baptist Church, it's now 6,000 seats and almost 1,000,000 square feet worth of campus. 24,000 members are on the rolls.
They've got the Falwell name, and an additional purpose...doing it for daddy.
Sr was holding the ministries back. With every foot-in-mouth comment, though it got him airtime, he sent potential hatemongers away. Now, they'll be teaching the same hate, preaching the same intolerance more "wisely" and getting into the pockets of more conservative republican officials...and they're going to get bigger.
Mark my words, what looks like a step forward is actually a step backwards.
