5. I was working in New Orleans in early July
and I welcome the opportunity to go back - plus do some good service. I should be able to devote the entire 3 days to help. (setup Monday and clinic Tue and Wed)

3. I volunteered at the one last November and it was one of the best
days ever...I was signed up for the morning only but ended up staying all day and wanting more. Great organization and the patients...still think about their stories. Wish I could go again.
Way to go!

6. Thank You For Caring
(I live in Illinois) but if it wasn't for the volunteers of this world where would we be? I don't have the health to do these things but I see it in so many ways,in so many places--the needy (and sadly the greedy). It takes so little to do so much good.

10. I've been so frustrated with politics lately that this has been an avenue I've been considering.
I've done volunteer work in the past, but my own life has been chaos for the last 7 years and I got away from it. But as my frustration builds with the current state of Washington D.C. I feel that turning local and helping people directly again is the best thing I could do. Whatever I do politics wise feels like a waste of time these days, but actually helping people might be the best remedy for that.

Tough for me, as I'm totally agoraphobic and as asocial as one can get without actually living in a cave....

Good on you, and thank you! :toast:

11. think globally, act locally
my level of frustration is beyond measure... I used to be a gracious, mild, patient person and of late I find myself yelling at the TV, confronting people with stupid bumper stickers and telling young clerks at stores how plactic bags should be outlawed and they should care... I NEED to do something.

besides, I might make it over to Bourbon Street to listen some jazz at night after the work :)

13. Well I was never gracious, mild or patient.
;)

And if you catch any new Jazz bands post 'em! I can never get enough music! :)

17. Very nice!
That's new to me. I'm into punk and satanic black metal (don't believe in Satan though...go figure), but this is really cool. Any form of honest music is worth checking out to me, and this was honest music. I could listen to this stuff easily.

Here's a little...er...blues....my style. This band's first album was all covers songs of Mississippi Delta Blues stuff...

Be warned, this is a little more uptempo....

there doesn't seem to be a lot out there any more for low income people or people w.out health insurance

it's funny to think of charity hospital being gone, just like that, and never yet replaced

there's a dental bus that goes around too, but it's for kids (under 18) only, as far as i know

before katrina i thought this was abt the best city in the us if you had to be poor and not have health insurance but they haven't done much to replace the public health care system that i know abt
