Boy mauled a 2nd time by same dog; dog to be put down

A pit bull will be put to sleep after the dog mauled a 7-year-old boy playing in Warren on Thursday.

It’s the second time a pit bull has attacked Khalil Rocks, who was playing in the front yard of his cousin’s home when he was mauled at 3:15 p.m.

“That’s the sad part for the kid,” Warren Police Lt. Michael Torey said today, noting that Khalil had to undergo skin grafts on his legs after the other attack a few years ago.

The dog had been chained in the backyard of its home in the 8700 block of Maxwell when the dog’s collar broke, Torey said.

“The kids scattered, but for some reason he picked Khalil and attacked him – knocked the kid to the ground,” Torey said. “One of the neighbors saw what was happening, ran outside and hit the dog with a flowerpot.”

1. The owners of the dog should be prosecuted
There is no excuse for this. I am a dog lover and the owner failed to provide an enclosed locked area for the dog and the dog owner failed to protect the neighborhood kids.

3. It's not clear from the article whether it was the same dog.

If this was the same dog, one would think he should have been put down the first time.

4. Why wasn't the dog put down the first time?
This poor boy; I can only imagine what he is going through.
