ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION is not a new problem... |
|
Native Americans used to call it WHITE PEOPLE.
(I saw this on Facebook and thought I'd share it.)

2. We have a long history of it |
|
The railroads were built by them. Many of the mines used them in the 1880-1910 era in Northern Mn. It would be interesting to see how many people have an illegal immigrant in their family tree. I imagine that would include many Republicans.

3. My dad used to say our ancestors snuck in because they couldn't afford to come legally |

I thought he was joking at the time. But now I wonder.

The native americans themselves were part of immigrants too, since their ancestors crossed over the Beringia land bridge.

How far back do we want to go with this little game?
Choose a year and everyone go back to their corners and come out fighting all over again.

gave birth to Siberian anchor babies and stayed here. We know them now as Native Americans. As said above how far do you want to go with this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beringia#Human_habitation

has immigration laws and you would have to do it legally. If they sent you, you would be fucked.

10. It's time that we respect our own borders, |
|
just as every other country in the world does. There is not a country in the world that let's people leak through a border the way we do with Mexico. Not one.
And make no mistake about it, we could stop it, but we continue to let it happen.
Why?
For votes.

13. No, not for votes. For Big Ag and cheap labor. |
|
Big Agra dumps cheap corn on southern Mexico. Those people are driven north and into slave wages. The corporations win and workers here and there lose.

15. And that's why illegal immigration will never be stopped. |
|
In the mean time, it makes a effective distraction for racist politicians to bamboozle ignorant RW fools with.

14. You do realize that some countries have open borders, yes? |
|
The problem is that companies large and small are allowed to exploit immigrant labor without any fear of prosecution. That situation has very little to do with votes and much more to do with business interests which are favored over individual interests.

17. Actually European countries let people from other European countries pour through their borders. |
|
France, Germany and 28 other countries on the continent have totally open borders with each other. Europeans not only tolerate open borders they love them. Other than a few far right wing parties, no Europeans want to go back to the days of border controls with each other.
It is the progressive countries with strong unions, effective social safety net and national health insurance, and progressive taxation that pursue open borders as a goal (the EU has gradually expanded over the decades). It is the more cut-throat capitalist countries, e.g. the US, Russia, China, etc., that view open borders as a bad thing to be avoided at all costs. In these countries people are busy fighting each other without much government help or support and the last thing they want is more "competition" from other countries.

18. Really? So I, an American, can just bop on over to Europe and get a job. Right? |
|
Yeah. Didn't think so. The EU is analogous to the states of the U.S., as has been pointed out to you repeatedly. Yet you still try to peddle this nonsense.

12. If we had truly open borders we couldn't handle it. |
|
Especially now when we are cutting food stamps and laying people off we need to realize we only have so much water, so many jobs, so much capacity in our electrical grid, so many retirees we can support, so many poor to, so much healthcare to provide etc. We have a higher standard of living than the vast majority of the world. If we truly wanted to share our wealth we would gladly outsource our jobs so people poorer than us could scrape by. We would accept completely free trade. But we (and by we I mean liberals) try to fight it to protect our standard of living.
Immigration policy and outsourcing is all about protecting an American life of plenty. The fact that we haven't been in control is the reason we now have so many more Americans falling into poverty. If you don't care about Americans who live at the poverty level then rampant illegal immigration and outsourcing is the way to go. It makes a college degree that much more important because illegal immigrants will always beat out the less educated on salary alone.
