A TRIBUTE To Jerry Falwell, may he Rest In Peace
In his own words:

He hated America
"I sincerely believe that the collective efforts of many secularists during the past generation, resulting in the expulsion from our schools and from the public square, has left us vulnerable."

"There is no separation of church and state. Modern US Supreme Courts have raped the Constitution and raped the Christian faith and raped the churches by misinterpreting what the Founders had in mind in the First Amendment to the Constitution."

“AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals”

“God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve”

He hated Jews but loved to use them
"The Jews are returning to their land of unbelief. They are spiritually blind and desperately in need of their Messiah and Savior."

“If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being”

“I believe that the people of Israel are the chosen people of God”

“The ACLU is to Christians what the American Nazi party is to Jews”

He hated Women
“It appears that America's anti-Biblical feminist movement is at last dying, thank God, and is possibly being replaced by a Christ-centered men's movement which may become the foundation for a desperately needed national spiritual awakening”

“I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.'” (regarding 9/11)

"Grown men should not be having sex with prostitutes unless they are married to them."

He really hated Homosexuals

“Homosexuality is Satan's diabolical attack upon the family that will not only have a corrupting influence upon our next generation, but it will also bring down the wrath of God upon America.”

“(homosexuals are) brute beasts...part of a vile and satanic system will be utterly annihilated, and there will be a celebration in heaven.”

He hated the Truth
“I do not believe we can blame genetics for adultery, homosexuality, dishonesty and other character flaws”

“The whole (global warming) thing is created to destroy America's free enterprise system and our economic stability”

“Textbooks are Soviet propaganda”

“Christians, like slaves and soldiers, ask no questions”

RIP Rev. Falwell.

42. Yes!
Or else he might rise again.

No wait, Vampires are much cooler and sexier than Jerry Falwell. ...and much less Evil.

What is worse? Flesh-eating Zombie?

In all of Romano's "Dead" flicks, don't you have to cut off/shoot off their heads? Sounds good.

4. He was a radical American cleric
who preached hate when he spoke from his heart. It is little wonder that he has received the same in response to his passing.

I do not mourn him. I mourn the hate he left behind in the hearts and minds of his followers.

7. If Falwell lived in Afghanistan, he would have been preaching from a cave with an AK-47
by his side. His sermons would have been distributed on grainy video tapes by "terrorist networks" with the goal of creating hatred towards Americans.

I guess the only difference between that and the American Falwell is the cave and AK-47.

22. Radical clerics who preach hate are to be feared
no matter what religion they misuse while doing it.

Yes, he would have been preaching from a cave and. I believe, with more than just an AK-47. The scary part about that is: If he were in Afghanistan imagine the glee he would have felt knowing he could do more than just denounce them. In some areas he would have been able to have them round and executed.

Yep, he was a chickenshit but he'd have an AK-47 as a prop to rally his followers. He'd never get his own hands dirty. Rather he would have others do his bidding, but believe me, he'd want to watch.

14. "radical American cleric"
Yes, he was, the exact mirror image of the radical hate-filled mullahs the rightwing loves to demonize. Oh yes the rightwing hates vituperative, intolerant, violent religious fundamentalists - unless they're "Christian" and donate money to the Republican party, then they're men of God.

There is no principle, honor, or honesty in conservatism. The entire worldwide movement, from radical Islam to radical Christianity is a festering pustule of corruption, hypocrisy, lies, hate, and schism. May they reap exactly what they have sown.

24. Well said
Any time a cleric uses their religion to spew hatred and to blame others you know they are a radical, zealot who has lost touch with reality.

The sad part about reaping what they sow is the effect it has their children. It is one thing when an adult is stupid enough to believe in the hatred, it is another when they indoctrinate their children into the same type of thinking.

5. Falwell Was So, So BAD For America
Falwell rose to power in tandem with Ronald Reagan. It was Falwell's Moral Majority that helped Reagan get elected, and in return he rose to power and prominence. Politicians who were elected by American citizens kissed Falwell's pinky ring, although he himself was never elected to anything representing American interests.

He set about helping the Republicans divide our country along partisan lines and he did it for his own, secular, power.

Jerry Falwell was bad for America.

May he rest in peace.

Edited on Tue May-15-07 08:53 PM by berni_mccoy
But there is a correlation of homosexuality with genes. He's obviously clouding the issue by bringing up a point that has truth to it with others that plainly do not.

And there is an entire field of behavioral genetics.

Promiscuity is a geneticly influenced behavior and could lead one to cloud the issue by saying scientist claim genes cause adultery (which is not true). But promiscuity is a breeding strategy influenced by genes (and evolution) that is documented in many species of animals.

43. The Point
Lesbian here. I think of gayness much like left-handedness, except much deeper and actually and coincidentally perhaps, more gays are left-handed than the average. Aside from that, the point is, it's irrelevant. The purpose Jerry Falwell had in saying there is nothing innate about gayness, was so he could call it a character flaw or evil behavior, rather than just another way of being.

17. He hated Jefferson
...who wrote, "Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of God; because, if there be one, he must approve the homage of reason rather than of blindfolded fear. Do not be frightened from this inquiry by any fear of its consequences. If it end in a belief that there is no God, you will find incitements to virtue in the comfort and pleasantness you feel in its exercise and in the love of others it will procure for you."

40. He supported Apartheid.
Born and raised in America's segregated South, Falwell preached that racial segregation was the Lord's will, but dropped such overt racism from his perspective when it became unpopular to say such things aloud. Still, from his pulpit Falwell supported South African apartheid, and opposed Nelson Mandela's release from prison.

36. Reverend, what the hell were you talking about?
"There is no separation of church and state. Modern US Supreme Courts have raped the Constitution and raped the Christian faith and raped the churches by misinterpreting what the Founders had in mind in the First Amendment to the Constitution."

Raped? What are you talking about, raped? What was your obsession rape, Reverend?

“God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve”

Then I guess you DESERVED being raped, Reverend? Is that right?

“If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being”

Reverend, I never have been and never will be a born-again anything, and why does that make me a failure as a human being? What does that mean, anyway, to be a failure as a human being? I treat puppies and old people very nicely, and have a large circle of friends and family who I love and who love me. Is there really any other measure of "success" than that?

"Grown men should not be having sex with prostitutes unless they are married to them."

Is that how you viewed your wife Macel, Reverend? Was she simply a prostitute there for your pleasure? Is that how you taught your two sons, Jerry Jr. and Jonathan to view their wives? Is your daughter, Jeannie, the surgeon, simply a prostitute for her husband? Reverend?

“(homosexuals are) brute beasts...part of a vile and satanic system that will be utterly annihilated, and there will be a celebration in heaven.”

So my gay friends Doug and Dave are satanists? The two sweetest, gentlest people on the planet are vile and heaven will celebrate their annihilation? Not Doug and Dave! They love everybody! They are the pure embodiment of what should be Christian "love thy neighbor!" They wouldn't hurt a fly, and they probably wouldn't even say anything bad about you, Reverend... wait a second... let's find out... (calls Doug on the phone)

Sorry to disappoint you, Reverend, but Doug says that you spent your life on a misguided mission, and hopefully your Jesus will forgive you. Oh, he also sends his condolences to your family. He's SUCH an evil man!!!

“I do not believe we can blame genetics for adultery, homosexuality, dishonesty and other character flaws”

Why did you always have to "blame" things on things? Why couldn't you simply try to "understand" things? See them as they are? Did "blame" help to increase your revenues?

“The whole (global warming) thing is created to destroy America's free enterprise system and our economic stability”

What the hell does that mean, Reverend? I "believe" in global warming, but why would I want to destroy my comfortable lifestyle by bringing down the free enterprise system? I've got nothing against people making money, Reverend, as long as they do it responsibly! Is that really so difficult to understand?

“Textbooks are Soviet propaganda”

Yeah, whatever!

“Christians, like slaves and soldiers, ask no questions”

Aaaahhh!!! Now I get it!
