So, who/what currently operates inside the 2.5 block radius of “sacred ground” of the WTC? |
|
Edited on Sun Aug-15-10 09:43 PM by Bozita
And do any of them need to go in order to maintain the sanctity of that area?
I'm not very familiar with NYC, but I'm sure that there are some pretty objectionable things going on there on a daily basis. Which one(s) need(s) to go?

3. Yeah, I noticed that "Gentlemen's Club" on the awning |
|
of the place next door. I guess tittie bars are just fine for Christian soldiers but worshiping the same god of Abraham in a slightly different way is not.
The hypocrisy of these people is stunning.

15. Yep, a strip club, and a bar, so I've heard -- and if ever the Muslims take over, |
|
Edited on Sun Aug-15-10 11:06 PM by smalll
that'll be the end of both of them.

4. That's only if we buy into the notion that proximity to "sacred ground"... |
|
...means fuck-all.
I'm till waiting for for one of our NYC members to post how many ACTUAL steps there are in Sarah Palin's assertion that the Cordoba Center site is mere "steps away" from Ground Zero.
My patience (like yours I suspect, Bozita) is wearing thin. I'm afraid if I see any more of those RW anti-mosque talking points regurgitated here, I may get myself in big trouble with our rules...

7. I left NYC about a year ago... |
|
but I lived there for a while and spent enough time down there to be able to guesstimate. If you did it in the middle of the night when you don't have to bob and weave around tourists and other people probably about 800. Midday, twice that at least.
It's far enough that my former roommate, Crys, a RW Wall St. banker would have taken a cab. Can't be scuffing the Choos or getting street-dirt on the Versace, you know. (God, I hated her...it's pretty abysmal when someone that awful trots into your life and starts f*cking your best friend, then moves in with the two of you.)

14. I mean, it's not THAT far...but so what anyway? |
|
Just because people died doesn't mean the whole area becomes a shrine where people have no rights.
I made the point in another thread, but it's like ... should cops be banned near places where innocent people were shot up for no reason by police? The sight of cops walking around there might be very emotional for people living there...

17. The protesters bristle at being called 'bigots' |
|
But how else to describe those who make such tenuous connections, as well as the fallacious assumption that Muslim=terrorist (or at least, potential terrorist).
Some may have a genuine emotional reaction that has nothing to do with bigotry, but they still rely on false assumptions.
My biggest disappointment is seeing bigoted views expressed even HERE.

8. I think it should be a more specific question |
|
How many religious buildings have been allowed to build in the WTC area since 9/11?
What is the religious breakdown?
The builders of the mosque could have a serious lawsuit on their hands.

11. Dunno where they are now, but I do know where there were several whorehouses... |
|
in the area. It's Wall Street, and you can't have that much money around without whores.
And, yes, there were always strip clubs down there.

|
Otherwise they couldn't be there, could they?

19. Here's the list from ABC News. Last night, they had a map showing strip clubs and gambling parlors |
|
as already there. http://abcnews.go.com/WN/gop-jumps-president-obamas-ground-mosque-comments/story?id=11406584&page=2In fact, within four blocks of Ground Zero there are two strip clubs, an adult and lingerie shop and an Off-Track Betting parlor. Here's another, longer list of businesses at 'ground zero'. http://www.aolnews.com/nation/article/name-that-mosque-ground-zeros-other-neighbors/19590651
