Formula for Privatizing Social Security
1. Enough bluedogs and Republicans after the 2010 election to achieve a simple majority on the issue.

2. The Democratic establishment becoming convinced (and trying to convince us) that even if Dems only lose one seat in 2010, it will have been because they failed to appeal to conservative independents, regardless of what any numbers, polling, or science indicate. And definitely not because of a despirited, disenfranchised base who fails to work/donate/vote for them. After "licking their wounds" and "soul-searching", they come up with the answer: Head right.

3. A "deficit commission" filled with people who have instructions not to "get rid of the pentagon", because that's what the "professional left" wants.

4. Giving the deficit commission the power to force an up or down vote on any policy they recommend (no chance for filibuster).

5. Rahm Emanuel and Tim Geithner convincing Barack Obama that if this is passed by Congress, he needs to show he's serious about saving the economy, reaching across the aisle, and trimming the deficit, he has to sign whatever legislation comes out of that deficit commission, even if it means privatizing social security. After all, why wouldn't you? What, you don't like private industry? Fox News is going to call you a Communist!

We need to take a stand or this could happen in the near future. Amazing how the lunatic fringe of the minority party seems to have more legislative power than the vast majority of the nation. Next up: Formula for amending the 14th Amendment.

1. By George, I think you've got it, hit the nail on the head, exposed a RW conspiracy for what it is
to assure tens of millions more Americans living in poverty down the road and the almost complete transfer of wealth to a relatively small few is fiat accompli. :)

2. A RW conspiracy?
Sorry, but this was dreamed up and carried out by a Democratic president, with the help of members of his cabinet and members of the Democratic Congressional leadership.

Or haven't you forgotten that it was Obama who created the catfood commission, and it was Obama who appointed such conservative deficit hawks such as Simpson. It was also a Democrat, Pelosi, who slipped a little provision into another bill that will force an up or down vote on whatever commission recommendations come out of the Catfood Commission.

Sorry, but this is, at best, a bipartisan screwing.

4. Stand by my RW conspiracy theory: are not these Dems really just RW DINOs
busily and dutifully going about their work assuring a mostly-RW agenda is implemented as your assertions/observations would seem to indicate? :P

11. The author of Wingnuts would beg to differ
But he doesn't understand that the paradigm has shifted way to the right and any reasonable, sane person is "left of center" at least these days.

5. I agree with indepat. When a longtime RW conspiracy comes to fruition with 'bi-partisan' help
that doesn't diminish the RW of the conspiracy, it just exposes the collaborators.

9. Reich-wing != republikun. We have an overabundance of them right here.
And they are in control of the White House and most of the party machine.

As Lord Acton and many others since said, "The issue which has swept down the centuries and which will have to be fought sooner or later is the people versus the banks."

We got suckered in the 19th century and it's time to go another round with the villainous parasites that bleed us.

3. This is what happens in an Aristrocracy--Rich are the powerful.
Which party is and has always been the party of the Rich?
The Grand Old Party, of course.

10. I call it a Capitalocracy
government of wealth, by wealth, and for wealth. Well, except for the "voting" part, but they're making sure that doesn't get in the way too much.

8. And forever is a long time.
Damn, the Republicans got the abolition of slavery and we got stuck with Vietnam. If you didn't know any better, you'd think we were backing the wrong horse!
:o
