Speaking of "ground zero" houses of worship...whatever happened to St. Nicholas?

I know it was destroyed on 9/11. Did the parish rebuild or relocate?

Anybody know?

Used to walk past it every day when I worked at the World Financial Center.

1. Last I knew, which was about a year ago...

they had the option of rebuilding their church on the parcel of land they own, or swapping their land with another nearby.
Negotiations fell through without a deal I believe. So St. Nicholas still owns the land, but the PA-NY/NJ will be using eminent domain to take over the land for the new WTC building.

One of the issues was that the parish wanted to rebuild their church in the traditional Greek Orthodox style, with a large gold-leaf dome. However, PA-NY/NJ refused to allow anything built that would be higher than the WTC memorial.
