Levin gets a pie in the face

Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich) was pied in the face by an anti-war protester at a local appearance Monday, according to several Michigan media outlets.

The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee was speaking to the Mecosta County Democratic Party when a 23-year old Michigan State student began harrassing him on his stance on foreign policy issues. The student, Ahlam Mohsen, was arrested after the incident at Pepper's Café and Deli in Big Rapids, Mich.

WZZM13-TV, a Western Michigan ABC News affiliate, provided these details and the exchange between Levin and the student:

“Carl Levin is one of the most respected senators in Congress,” Mohsen said. “People tend to blame the war on Republicans, but we wanted to target Levin today to send a message that liberals and Democrats are just as implicated in the violence as the Republicans.”

Someone who “throws something at somebody or hits somebody with something doesn't understand the blessings of America,” Levin said, wiping pie from his face.

“We are blessed to live in a country where one has the right to free speech,” he added, but that kind of violence isn’t acceptable.

Levin’s staff declined to comment on the incident.

I wonder what kind of violence Sen. Levin deems to be acceptable? Apparently a pie in the face, inflicted on him is not. But he continues to vote to fund a level of violence unimaginable to 90% of Americans. Oh wait, I see; the operable part of the comment is that it has to happen in this country. If it happens in Iraq, Afghanistan or Cuba, it doesn't count.

didn't cause his to have a heart attack. Here we have all those republicans who supported Bush for eight years when he invaded two neutral countries. When he threw American dollars after American dollars into the wars. When he was directly responsible for almost five thousand deaths of American military and millions of deaths of Iraqi and Afgans, and not one person threw a pie in the face of any of those republicans. Why because they would have been picked up and taken to Gitmo for protesting Bush's War.
