I've figured out the Prop H8ers. It isn't about same-sex marriage at all.
It's about the subjugation of women, and continuing the religious and economic patriarchy.

Think about it: the h8ers (and yes, they are homophobes, but it's about much more than that for them), keep ranting on and on about "traditional marriage" yet can't explain how/why allowing same-sex couples to do it would be any more harmful to marriage than, say, Zsa-Zsa Gabor is harmful to marriage.

So why the angst? The breakdown of traditional sex roles. They've already lost the battle on divorce, and the battle about women working outside the home. So how can they possibly roll back the clock? By holding the line on defining marriage roles. Yes, it's simplistic and won't ultimately work, but that's what is really behind this all.

What say you, DUers? Am I onto something or am I way off base?

1. I think that plays a role
Obviously Homophobia as well

I also think there is an undercurrent of self-loathing there. These gay couples - they look so happy - and my marriage - looks horrific - so if I can't be happy, NO ONE CAN

2. You're trying to make it logical. They are simply bigots.

7. I would counter...
...that they are NOT simply bigots. I contend that they are simply IGNORANT.

I know that I am splitting hairs, but I think that it is closer (on the whole) to ignorance than to bigotry. That way, it allows me to retain what little respect I have for humanity. They are not all mean...but most are uneducated.

They're homophobes AND they're for the subjugation of women.

4. the patriarchy is behind most everything
so, yes, you are right about this...but don't forget the hatred of woman and all of nature. If a man should have ANY of those traits of the creatures they so loathe, then it is hatred of that man who would dare to have feminine traits. The patriarchy has hurt both men and women. JMHO of course.

6. They don't believe in the separation of Church and State
Even though a tenet of Christianity is that you aren't to impose your rules on non-believers, they feel that they have the "moral right" to do so.

Something about rendering unto Caesar and all that, that they ignore.
