1. i put all of the above, not knowing what else to put but...
Edited on Tue Aug-17-10 07:37 PM by pitohui
we've never seen anything like the deal he cut w. BP for the $20 billion fund for victims in the gulf -- that was fucking HUGE

we saw what you get under reagan/bush, w. exxon valdez -- fuck all

obama is really out there taking the heat to help folks down here

the only thing i don't like is the offshore drilling moratorium, but i can see where that's a legit diff of opinion

there's another thread going abt jimmy carter and abt how america missed the boat by voting in reagan, i think if we don't recognize obama's achievements, one day we'll be shaking our heads and going, you know, that guy had a TOUGH job but he was getting stuff done...

27. Yes, the
BP settlement was a BFD, especially in light of the failed attempts to portray the entire episode as "Obama's Katrina."

7. considering all the other positive things on the list he has done
Does it fit that he is on a mission to destroy public education?

No.
One of these things is definitely not like the others.

Unless it's all a masquerade, that he is hiding his true agenda of destroying education and the only way he can do that is improving the health system, giving students a fair shake at getting loans, etc. etc.

Devious!

9. Public education was in the crapper long before Obama even became a Senator...
It's been a long, stagnant decade of educational bullshit.

If you want to blame Obama for something, how about blaming him for sucking up to BP and carrying their water with this bullshit about 90% of the oil having evaporated or some such stupidity. If you are going to bash him, make it work for you! Bashing him for something that went awry long before his time is asinine and disingenuous at best. It works against you.

13. Obam throwing in with the corporitists to privatize public schools isn't a decade old.
If you aren't aware of the current push in the Obama administration toward private for profit charter schools, then you haven't been paying attention.

21. President Obama didn't start this downward spiral
Ronald Reagan started this downward slide, Chimpy's "No Child Left Behind" broke it down even further. The Texas group that votes on what to put into school books continues the downward spiral...

It was broken and no one wants to admit it. There are damned fine educators out there and they have been marginlized for the last 30 years.

Science, Math, The Arts, Civics have been attacked by the right for 30 years....

Charter schools started under Poppy....

So let's not pretend that this happened in the last 19 months..

What we are experiencing in all segments of our society is the deconstruction of America by the right wing in this country.

8. Timidity.
Wasting a whole year on health care and caving to the Republics at every opportunity, real or imagined, while the working people of this (once) great country literally went begging for jobs.

If you ain't got a job, health care is a moot point.

12. A few of those things and also promoting the hate preacher
Donnie McClurkin, opposing equal rights for minorities he and Donnie think God does not like, and that sort of thing. He owns all he does, good or bad.
My favorite news of last week was from DOJ, about enforcing the law about offering voter registration when people sign up for benefits of any kind. I really like that, it is not a new law, but the enforcement of one that has been allowed to sit idle. A very good thing.
The opposition to equality, not a good thing. Do you have any complaints at all, or is it all dandy-double plus good for you and all who you care about? Lots of jobs and loads of rights, all is well in whatever industry you are in, I suppose?

Aren't they leaving 50,000 "non-combat" troops there? I also wonder about how many private contractors we may be secretly paying to stay there...

Edited on Tue Aug-17-10 08:17 PM by Barack2theFuture
was at least clearly a step in the right direction.

The others are supply-side-driven corporate initiatives with nice-sounding names, most of which made our problems worse, not better. I interpret "credit" to mean praise for accomplishment, so I can't give credit for the bankster gift and republican porkfest they called "stimulus" or the unprecedented gift to the medical insurance industry they pretended was "health care reform" or some of those other gifts to corporations.

And "green"? Don't make me laugh.

Nicely crafted push-poll, by the way.

Hopefully they will provide some counter-balance to the horrors of Scalia, Thomas, Roberts and Alito. These Obama-appointed Justices may (hopefully) be the true and crucial legacy of the Obama Presidency.
