DOJ Foot-Dragging On Prison Rape Unites Left-Right Coalition
... A law passed in 2003 created an independent commission to develop national standards to address the problem. The commission issued its exhaustive report in June 2009. And the attorney general was required by law to enact new standards by June 23, 2010.

In a June letter June, Holder expressed his "regret" that he would not be able to meet Congress's deadline. He explained that the working group he commissioned -- which represents 13 different Justice Department offices and the Department of Homeland Security -- is moving as fast as it can.

......................

So on Tuesday, the unusual coalition gathered at the National Press Club to demand faster action.

Prison rape continues because "the system looks the other way," said David Keene, chairman of the American Conservative Union. And now the regulations are lagging "because this is not at the top of anybody's agenda." <snip>

1. I'm just surprised the ACU gives a darn, except it's helpful
for them to paint this admin as uncaring. As usual, we don't know the full story. I wonder if they made a peep during dimson's reign?

3. The full list of groups who met at the National Press Club about this:
Focus on the Family, George Soros's Open Society Policy Center, the American Conservative Union and the American Civil Liberties Union.

An independent commission was created by a law passed in 2003 that was charged with developing national standards addressing the issue. Their report was completed in June of 2009 and the law gave the AG until June 23, 2010 to enact new standards.

2. "Holder's Justice Department" is an oxymoron.
Ask Don Siegelman. The very people that railroaded his ass are still working there.
