Yes, another Falwell thread. Take a look anyway. |
|
I can honestly say I despised the man as much as I despise anyone who is a hypocrite and preys on the human tendency to believe in a higher power. However - I cannot say I revel in his death. I see him as just another pathetic soul who lived his life for money and power and is now gone. I don't like to see any life gone no matter who it is. I wish he had chosen another another path for his life but he made his own choices and decided to use religion to further his own egotistic aspirations.
So Jerry Falwell is dead. The fundies who followed him are surely mourning and devastated. Me - I don't care. I simply don't care. He's gone, and the world will go on as it always does when any human being dies. Any human being who could have used his gift of communication to unite rather than divide.

The man did not use his life as he should have....he promoted himself the opposite of what he was.

2. But he wasn't just another pathetic soul. |

He was an incredibly influential, even powerful, pathetic soul.
The harm he did was real, widespread, and enduring.
I care very much that he is gone. The world today is a better place because he is no longer in it, and there is no shame in stating that simple fact.

he should have used the talent he had to influence for good instead of what he chose to do...it's a life lost and now gone and the world will go on. Those who believed he was a 'messiah' of sorts will find another unfortunately.

5. He actively involved himself in human evil. |
|
He did it in the name of Jesus Christ.
You are correct, He is not typical in the least.

6. I didn't know Falwell was told to take over the PTL and then when |
|
Baker changed his mind a few days later, Falwell basically told him to take a hike. You learn something new everyday.
