I Spoke with my Publisher Today! Thanks Skinner and DU!
Edited on Wed Aug-18-10 07:42 AM by Liberation Angel
For some time now I have been working on a book, documentary, film and mulltimedia project related to the activists and the anti-Nazi anti-fascist resistance during WWII.

The theme deals in part with both pre-WWII and post WWII activities of Nazis and their backers here on Wall Street.

It is controversial and dangerous work which is why I remain anonymous as much as possible here at DU and elsehere on the net (although i do public speaking, museum exhibits, am involved in several documentaries and other films (including the History Channel), conferences and lectures on the Shoah, rescuers, the resistance and the methodologies of fascism in the 20th and 21st Centuries. Fascism in Latin America and Central America especially is a focus as well as other corporate totalitarianism globally.

My project with a major international publisher with film rights for my book or series of books has been green-lighted and proceeding intensely as well as negotiations in Los Angeles for the film rights to this primarily nonfiction history.

I spoke (via email) with the head of the publishing company today (he is in Europe) and all is set to go forward as quickly as we can get it out (it is mostly finished but needs editing, translations (it is in English and another European language) and some final negotiations on film rights, creative control etc.

The story is based in large part (but not entirely) on a story which I helped so research for in the Smithsonian Magazine last year.

The link to that article is here:

http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history-archaeology/Binghams-List.html

(I noticed too that a former possible DU poster is related to the main subject of the article and posted a comment in the online version of the article).

I wanted to express my gratitude to Skinner et al and all of DU for providing a safe haven for me to get information, ideas, and to discuss and debate many of the issues involved.

DU is heaven sent for a writer who needs help with sources, links, new ideas and perspectives, arguments, and reality checks.

There is no place better on the net as far as i am concerned for these things with many many highly intelligent and insightful and thoughtful writers (and I mention especially a few of my most respected: BabylonSister, Time for Change and Octafish as well as the usual suspects like KPete and Will Pitt - but too many others I admire to name all). Also to Andy Stephenson who was a friend and, I believe, paid the ultimate price for his activism. He and I spoke frequently on other boards and on the phone before his tragic and horrific end (the mean spiritedness of the opposition was dumbfounding except in the context of how fascism operates and they got his treatment delayed and stressed him out to the extent it probably killed him)

I joined DU a year or so ago and found a real place to learn and grow and wanted to say thank you to all of you.

You are helping me to realize my dreams and providing so much to me. Every time I open DU (especially the top tens) I am enthralled with the quality of the intellect and the debate and even the work of the agent mikes and disruptors who may be scum but they too make us all faster, better, harder, and stronger.

So Thanks Skinner.

Anyone who wants to see some of my work in progress may view my youtube site. It is a work in progress and is quite diverse as I collect materials and prepare to upload my own work and interviews etc.

The story is all there and is growing daily. There are great archived vids too and music of my life (as this is partly memoir of my own life and activism).

so look around, friend me, subscribe, comment (I have to screen the comments due to disruptors but that's okay) and please pass it on to those who might be interested.

my Youtube Channel is www.youtube.com/user/LiberationAngels

(Liberation Angels is my working title which is explained in the Smithsonian article). It is why I use that as my username.

Before too long I will have to go public with my real name etc. Hopefully we can have a DU event in NYC or Washington if I get the film done and premiers happen there. Or book release events. You are all invited, even agents mike and mikette.

All of you contribute to my work and hopefully to my success and I am deeply grateful to all of you (even to my detractors on nuclear power or conspiracy theories or spirituality who only make me stronger and better).

But for now I remain safe and anonymous here and at DU and I am SO grateful for that because fascism and evil is real and very dangerous for those with the belief that they must be fought with every ounce of courage we can muster as the resistance did (and still does) fighting fascism in WWII and ever since.

But To Skinner and the administrators here, Earl, etc, I owe a special debt of gratitude.

Thanks and Peace Love and happiness!

1. The Music and Playlists at My Youtube Channel BTW
Edited on Wed Aug-18-10 08:26 AM by Liberation Angel
The reason I have certain musicians featured on my channel is in large part because I love them and they are relevent to what I am doing and my story - but also because I have been discussing the soundtrack for the film with several of them, including Buckwheat Zydeco, Regina Spektor, the Ginger Ninjas and CelloJoe. The story is set in NYC where I work and live in the east village and features musicians, street musicians and East Village characters)

I have spoken already directly with Regina Spektor, Buckwheat and his band, Kipchoge and the Ginger Ninjas (who are currently on their bicycle tour of Europe on their Pleasant Revolution Bicycle Musical Festival tour) which includes Cello Joe (whose blues and jazz beatbox cello/loop riffs at Angor Wat Temple in Cambodia are simply magnificent in my opinion.

It gives the story contemporary flavor as the history is discovered and unfolds.

It is also a lot more fun working with musicians who are deep and political and conscious of what is really happening in the world.

If I had one message for today it is the words spoken by Bob Marley in "War" which is my top favorite. (Also Delta Man by Gil Scott Heron in my playlists defines in part where I am coming from).

Hope you enjoy this, DU.

It is for you.

7. The tiny group of Americans working with the Resistance in Marseille France are amazing to me
Men and women, artists and writers, political activists and poets (Breton, Ernst, Chagall, Feuchtwanger, Fran Werfel, Alma Mahler, Hannajh Arednt) working alongside an American antiNazi journalist Varian Fry and Harry Bungham and two remarkable American women Miriam Davenport and Mary Jane Gold (who wrote her won book and I have interviewed members of her family as I have some of the others) who got conctration camp gueards drubk so prisoners could sneak away to escape or get false passports, papers, visas, etc) really impressed me.

But more than that in many ways I find that they remind me a LOT of this community at DU - many of whom are engaged in things which are similar. Some intellectually or as writer activists (kind of like me - although I do actual activism as well with human rights and environmental groups) and some as die hard seekers of justice and truth like Cindy Sheehan or Andy Stephenson who used their own names fearlessly and literally risk their lives for peace and justice.

That is what inspired me to do this work and to tell these stories.

Thanks much

Enjoy the music and archives there. More is to come! (and thanks for being the first to respond. I feared this thread would sink like a rock or get unrec'd by the agent mike and mikettes.

8. Just read the Smithsonian piece
This is a better story than Schindler's list, in a way, because it better highlights the attitude in America in those times. It also illuminates our present culture, for those who have eyes to see.

And yes, it would make a great movie.

Thank you, and........good luck.

13. It's a great article, the author is a great guy (he's on PBS-TV now)
I worked very closely with him on this as a researcher.

Spent some good time too. He has also some really good books and did a biography of and with Manuel Noriega.

So I trust him. He also has family in Argentina which is what made him able to tell the story about the Nazi gold etc well.

As for Schindler, the article title is obviously derivative - but the fact is that in fact Schindler WAS a member of the Nazi party which is quite different from Bingham who, while from the WASP elites and those circles, he became what some commentators call a "traitor to his class/race" for helping Jews, Socialist, "degenerate" artists and writers (the surrealists), and common folks fleeing extermination against orders of the State Department. He was an artist, photographer and edited films as well so he appreciated the value of all these humans not as weirdos or alien others but as assets to humanity.

He hid Jews and others in his home who were wanted persons by the Nazi-Vichy regime.

It is a cool story and will be an awesome movie if done right. If they f it up I will be furious (one version called "Varian's War based on an article I wrote which was stolen by a right wing Hollywood director, sucked royally and I never got a dime from that although it was a direct ripoff)

Thanks for the props. I need them right now as I have been working nonstop and pray it all gets done before I drop or get Wellstone'd (there have been threats which i reported to the FBI).

10. Yeah, Bananas! And I left you out! Sorry. You ARE a favorite here too!
Especially as we battle the powers of nuclear darkness.

Thanks and kudos backatcha.

My Channel does not yet touch the nuke power issues although they are certainly related to energy, corruption, corporate fascism and eugenics (Spontaneous abortions in sacrifice cities where nukes are located anyone?) in part because these guys also often have ties to the publishing industry and if they smell opposition will try to destroy you and kill your projects.

But I have another project that deals with that (and it is a very dark comedy)

Never mind the Mitt Romney, Indian Gambling/Casinos, Money Laundering Racketeering, drug and human sex trafficking, illegal nuke waste disposal in Africa and offshore tax havns with banking secrecy laws and mercenaries thingies. That is for later (election cycle 2012)

The fascist want Romney and so are ruining the world to make Obama look bad now. Romney os in the money launderers pockets and they all work for the BFEE. Stay tuned (AND they run the global nuclear power empire) Oh well.

Thanks.

You ARE Bananas! And I love you for it. You gotta be! Just like me!

22. My days of glory have since past...
Edited on Wed Aug-18-10 11:20 AM by Javaman
I was a filmmaker/cinematographer for years. Did the uphill battle, but in the end, the freelance life did me in.

The last project of any worth that I worked on is at least 10 years old now and a sad one to go out on. A really bad comedy that did the independent circuit. It made it to Slamdance, so I guess that's something. LOL

Thankfully, it was someone else's project. I got paid for my trouble and just pulled the shots I liked for my reel. ;)

I now live vicariously through other filmmakers. LOL

20+ years of filmmaking without much to show for it, took its toll on me. I blame George Lucas. If it weren't for him and Star Wars, I would probably be a veterinarian now. LOL

Damn that Luke Skywalker!!! I cheer for Darth now when I watch it.

Camera - but I do not remember the name.

I was proud of the shots I did but the director also did the main footage and used mostly his own neglecting a lot of my very cool artsy and beautiful footage.

Oh well. Plus the name had been used so they had to change it and I really can't remember what it was now. Sad.

Tell me the name of your film?

I'll keep an eye out for it. Love that stuff. All effort in art is worth a lesson in progress.

Never give up though. Things are changing and the media is changing fastest.

I kinda like it.

27. ahhh the films name...
Remember, it was a very bad bad comedy. I take no responsibility to it's content other than its lighting and photography. LOL

It was called, "What I like about you". Ugh, it will give me night terrors just bringing up the name.

It was later changed to "She likes him". A lame title given to it by the 1 distributor it garnered. Copy-write issues and all. The producers snagged the festival rights to the song of the same name, but recorded by another band. The rights ran out and the name had to be changed.

Look it up on IMDB and sadly my cover of willful anonymity will be blown.

I have reigned in my filmmaking horses and now relegate myself to resurrecting an old comic book I started years ago based on a now time worn script that was once a "hot property" at Paramount. You can see by my jaded response how well it did. LOL

Beyond that, I've been scraping together a short animation on a topic, if divulged, would shame me. LOL so until it is done, it's a passion project. ;)

Very distant relatives i believe, but the diplomat is son of the Peru explorer
Machu Picchu etc.

He was also a right wing politician (the explorer) but also was a mountain climber and ran the air flying school in France during WWI.

His son , Harry, was way down with the antifascists and progressives and even helped Victor Serge, the Trotsky lieutenant, to escape to Mexico.

The Barry Binghams from Louisville are like 3rd or 4th cousins maybe but not close according to any research I've seen (and I've seen the genealogies)

Their family came in the first wave of colonists in like 1640's or so. I learned about them when I was doing historical research on Native American and slave history in New England. Some fascinating accounts. One of them almost got burned as a witch. Others of them almost did the burning (Family feud mother in law and daughter in law - big scandal)

34. the Bingham family helped our family when they first came
to the US. My great uncle Albert F Marzian (Mark Janza) was the conductor for the Courier Journal Orchestra.

They helped us through a great tragedy that befell our family.

My grandfather worked at C-J and grand mother worked across the street at Standard Gravure. They saw each other through the windows where they worked, and soon fell in love.

http://ragpiano.com/comps/amarzian.shtml His music is on youtube.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_Gravure_shooting

So when I hear Bingham, I think of that kind and generous family that was always there for us. Once when dad's business was going through a tough spot, they did a feature on him and his business. They played up his craftsmanship and honesty. They also put me in their pages on several occasions and put a portrait of me in their front window. So yeah, the name Bingham means a lot to me.

68. That's a cool story, thanks
It is interesting to know that two branxhes of this family did some goof humanitarian work (they also did some not so good things too -Hiram Bingham the explorer was an extreme right winger in many ways, but he had his good qualities too. But he was the cousin of the Louisville Binghams and not close to them as far as I have found in my research. They traveled in different circles more or less, although there was an ambassador from that family, I believe, before Joseph Kennedy in London. Not sure on details though.

Thanks a lot.

Hope you ;like the artivcle and my stuff at youtube as , again, we are all related.

36. Want to see something which might help and move you to fight for peace?

It is all about context.

These events in this vid helped change America and my outlook so that we can fight evil and know there is love in the world and hope

Just watch them and listen to the lyrics. They are magic.

For those who were not there or who do not understand the phenomenon and why it is important, watch and listen.

As Bullwinkle would say (or was it Rocky the Squirrel):

"Just Listen"

You won't be disappointed but you might cry:

http://www.youtube.com/user/LiberationAngels#p/f/12/3aOGnVKWbwc

It brought tears to my eyes ... and I am really tough...

which should be self explanatory when you hear this and see these videos.

We had a real chance and we were destroyed by the extreme right. (Nixon, Ford, Rockefeller Reagan, Bushes and a DINO named Clinton with their Gestapo COINTELPRO, CIA, NSA, ONI, DIA and FBI to name a few) All for sadistic total global corporate fascist needs and desires and greed.

It would have been beautiful.

It still can be

and when i say fight in my post title I mean nonviolently but with the awareness that it could get you killed as was the case with the rescuers i am writing/filming about.

39. Can't wait to read your work. A long time ago I read "The Beast Reawakens" which touches
on some of these subjects but it does not address the financing which was the most important aspect to the rise of the 3rd Reich. Thanks.

Edited on Fri Aug-20-10 08:33 AM by Liberation Angel
He actually turned me on to DU.

What happened to him here?

I understand he was tombstoned (he says he was set up by disruptors who impostored him and the admins and even Pitt thought he was a right wing troll. (He's not, believe me, as , I think, the article attests.)

74. He hated Kerry and his connection to Skull and Bones to the point of obession
More a disrupter than a troll. That, and a propensity to dabble in the conspiracy realm.

My observation was that he often distorted and twisted facts to fit his objective; demonize Kerry at all costs. His conclusions were often, to be kind, a stretch.

We now see he was privy to some genuine and fantastic information, but I suspect he spent so much time obsessing over it he began to spin his own twisted interpretations and fantasies fanned by the need to own the story and maintain his father's position on the hallowed plinth. It was a trap he fell into; sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, or not. There were conflicts in his father's life he choose to reject or outright ignore.

His uncle was a Bonesman, was his father?

81. I don't think so, but...
When you get into the "conspiracy realm" and you are dealing with secret socieities whose members have tes to the Nazis then everyone in those groups becomes suspect.

I don't trust Kerry much myself because of that membership with the Bushes and Nazi supporters (Walkers, Bushes and Harrimans) and their oaths of loyalty to their order.

Its creepy.

The uncle, btw , was married to Jeiwsh woman but he worked for the Harrimans who were involved with Bush in the financing of Hitler. Even in their own family they had these conflists.

It is an interesting story.

But ultimately the rescues are what counts, not the conflicts with the BFEE (as what many DUers cal that Nazi cabal and S&B.

44. My Grandfather was saved by Varian Fry's group...
Edited on Wed Aug-18-10 03:54 PM by mirrera
I recently found a book on refugees that filled in the holes of my Mother's time in France during that period. My Grandfather, Paul Amann was a translator and corresponded with Thomas Mann and his book of letters to my grandfather is quite well known. It took quite an effort by many of his author colleagues to get his name to Varian Fry.

On your Youtube channel you have the Movie "Varian's War" so I clicked on it because I would love to learn more about him, but according to people who were there, they say the movie is a terrible representation. Here is a link to some comments from people who say they know:

http://www.varianfry.org/varians_war_comments_en.htm

I look forward to your finished work!

edited to add a link about my grandfather:

60. It is well worth doing and very important. We are a country of people who know very little about
the Nazis and what they were up to pre WWII and how they were supported by various financial interests. This has always concerned me as I adhere to that well repeated belief that those who do not remember (or know) history are doomed to repeat it.

63. Look - Basically the Nazis did not lose the Second World War, they Continued it
The Bush family was their fascist vanguard.

When the Allies took Germany back for humanity they simply moved ops to Argentina and South Africa etc (where they alrady had bases and infrastructure).

It is simple math.

The Nazis won WWII and then rebranded and let Hitler retire in luzury in Patagonia.

THAT, my dear DU friends, is just history.

51. Wonderful article, and I love this quote from one of my favorite (perhaps my favorite) hymns.
Once to every man and nation, comes the moment to decide,
In the strife of truth with falsehood, for the good or evil side;
Some great cause, some great decision,
offering each the bloom or blight,
And the choice goes by forever,
'twixt that darkness and that light.

Edited on Thu Aug-19-10 08:16 AM by Liberation Angel
Sometimes.

music and lyrics often work where rhetoric fails.

Thanks for noticing that, although that part made me a bit squeamish given the failure of most Chrsitians to lifft a finger to rescue ANYONE, let alone Jews until we entered the war and our soldiers died because the Bushes and Rockefellers and Morgan and Dulleses had bankrolled Naziism as their vanguard for global corporate fascism and the NWO.

His father was a Unitarian minister. Hence, what were at the time his enlightened, liberal views. The Wikipedia article on him is interesting.

Maybe.

I need an interpreter actually to sight translate documents in mutliple languages (though i can read several languages and am learning more in this process)

If you read the Smithsonan article you will see that it was an international operation so many languages are required.

Let me know and in addition (after replying here on the thread) PM me or do that at Youtube (see link in my sig line) with biz details.

But can you do immediate interpretations like the guys at the UN? That is kind of what I need (like in the movie the Interpreter)

Edited on Fri Aug-20-10 08:35 PM by VioletLake
Only what she told me. And I had to beg her to answer my questions. Not just about her experiences in South America, but also about her life in Berlin during the war. Just talking about it was traumatic for her.

My cousin spent a lot more time with her than I did, but I don't know how she feels about the subject now.

I believe my grandmother met the first President Bush (as a young man), and his father.

Edited for clarity.
