the vapid arrogance of reality teevee 'stars'
(CNN) -- Apparently, reality star Snooki is not just too pretty for jail, she is too pretty for court.

Those expecting her to attend a court hearing in New Jersey on Wednesday may be disappointed.

Nicole Polizzi, also known as Snooki on MTV's reality show "Jersey Shore," is sending a lawyer on her behalf, according to a court clerk.

The 22-year-old was arrested in late July for disorderly conduct on the beaches of Seaside Heights, New Jersey. She will not serve jail time, but faces potential fines ranging from $250 to $1,000.

Polizzi told MTV News that jail is not the place for someone as attractive as she is.

"I'm too pretty to be in jail. I'm a good person. I'm not a criminal and I will never go back there," the "Jersey Shore" star said.

1. Is it the fault of the person . . .
. . . or MTV telling that person they're special by virtue of appearing on their station, even though they have no actual talent other than being an over-dramatic trainwreck for the world to see?

I'd say both, because Nicole and her crew of mooks were 104-octane assholes before this joke of a network made them famous.

2. 'Too pretty for jail' is not just for reality TV turds.
It also works for hot blond teachers who commit statutory rape of their students. Interestingly but not terribly surprisingly, "too pretty for jail" only works for women.

4. +1. Then you have the sickos saying that the raped kids were "lucky."
With such an offensive meme even being repeated by commentators in the media.

6. Lucky?
Sickos indeed, but more common than you might believe back in the early `70's when I went through it. Actually, one of the adult family members I went to suggested that I was the pervert. It wasn't until my own sons were teens that I finally realized that I was justifiably horrified by the experience. Of course, back then, the woman would not have even been charged, so things have improved some. On the other hand, the all too common sentencing for rape committed by women, and the typical attitude expressed here on DU, suggest that a male can't really be raped. Or more precisely, that a female can't commit rape.

7. I'm sorry for your experience. Our corrupt attitudes about male rape is the reason that
males are far less likely to report being raped. If it is done by a female adult, it is often not even considered rape by most people, or turned into a joke. It's pretty disgusting.

3. Pretty much a statement about our present cultural values.
Such a big ego for somebody who was never pretty in the first place.

Meanwhile, more soldiers died in Afghanistan, but only <5% of the population actually knows or cares about that...

11. The instant "faming" of the stupid of our society.
wealth has always had its privileges, however, now it appears as if stupid does as well.

Apparently, stupidity has usurped talent, but then again, hasn't that always been the case?

We live in the iFad instant fame era.

5. I can only imagine how many impressionable kids watch that show and think binge drinking is okay.
What a disaster. MTV should have their network revoked. Utterly irresponsible.

10. People don't have to go to court in many cases
But it is compulsory to go for the Meeting of Creditors when you declare bankruptcy. They have a right to question you. Mostly they don't go though. I guess they'd have to spend all day every day in court if they actually showed up for the MOC for every bankruptcy case.

12. So. Don't watch tv. That stuff will just rot your brain. Read a book.
Or look for some good entertainment. But all that serial and com and 'reality' tv and network stuff is just total crap. Brain rot. Avoid it.

16. Haven't watched MTV in two decades and I still know who she is
She may be an idiot and the show may be total crap, but it does have good publicists: I found out about her and her comrades from a lengthy article in, of all places, the New York Times - and not in the entertainment section.
