How evil does one have to be until it becomes acceptable to post "Gee, glad he's dead" on an Internet message board? Would Hitler or Stalin qualify? Does it require the mass murder of millions of people? Or is thousands enough? What about someone who kills just one? When
John Couey dies, will it be OK for me to say "good riddance", regardless of the fact that I'm against the death penalty? You know, just for the sake of an emotional release of sorts?
Would it be OK to post factual information about the recently deceased? Information such as "Hitler killed 6 million Jews", or "Stalin killed 20 million Russians" or "Couey raped and buried a little girl alive"? Would it furthermore be OK to then follow those facts with an opinion such as "Therefore, I'm glad he's dead"?
Would it be OK to say "Jerry Falwell spread hate speech that lead to the death of Matthew Shepard", or "Jerry Falwell's evangelizing gave Eric Rudolph justification to bomb abortion clinics"? Or am I crossing some kind of line?
Just wondering.
I understand that these sentiments are emotional in nature, but we're not robots. It would be unnatural to
not have these sentiments unless you actually agree and sympathize with Falwell's hate speech. (In that case you belong at freerepublic.com.) Perhaps we should have self discipline and not express them, but then what would be the point of anything here?
