Dr. Laura -- Serial Quitter
This isn't the first time Dr. Laura has taken her marbles and gone home after getting mad ... TMZ has learned she did the same thing on the boob tube.

Dr. Laura -- now famous for repeatedly hurling the "N" word on the radio show she is now quitting -- pulled the same stunt in 1999 when CBS TV offered her a talk show. Dr. Laura had a bunch of strings she attached to the deal -- most interesting ... that CBS muzzle Howard Stern so he wouldn't talk crap on her.

CBS refused to make the concession, so Dr. Laura huffed out of there and instead did a disastrous show at Paramount -- where she bashed gays.

Oh yeah, one more ironic twist ... Dr. Laura misguidedly said on Larry King last night that she was quitting so she could exercise her First Amendment rights ... something she clearly wanted to deny Howard Stern.

That thin skin isn't just the work of a good spa.

1. I think she was fired and trying to put the best face on it
Last night I did something I haven't done in at least the last ten years - watched Larry King. Just to hear "Dr" Laura's announcement.

What I heard was a ten minute snivel about her first amendment rights complete with a rather sad recitation of her ongoing high ratings and continued drawing power as a talk radio host. It was almost like she was trying to convince herself that even though she had been dumped by her syndicators, she still had it.

She seemed like she was barely able to hold it together, I laughed my ass off.

3. I was confused by that logic - how does quitting radio help her restore her 1st amendment rights?

6. What's funny is the she actually did exercise her first amendment rights.
What she fails to recognize is that it does not protect you free speech from the blow-back that it may receive.

7. Same way Palin quitting as Governor helped her fight for Alaskans.
It's a bullshit self-pity excuse.

4. What a hypocrite, to say the least. (And that's being nice.)
Conservatives are stupid, stupid people. They listen to the lies told to them by the likes of Dr. Laura, Rush, Sean, Glenn, Bill, etc., and never once question whether what they're being told is the truth. They don't fact check, ever, and if they do they certainly don't call the hate talkers on any of it.

These people feed on conservative hatred and bigotry. The conservatives don't like others telling them what to do, yet they have no problem forcing their beliefs on others. And that isn't what America is about. The Constitution that dictates the terms says so.

If the conservatives don't like it, they should move to another country where things are more to their liking. I'll help them pack.

10. She clearly needs to learn what "First Amendment Rights" are...
They don't mean you get to say whatever the hell you want and nobody calls you to task for your words.

They mean that the government can't stifle citizens' rights to speak freely, even if it means speaking out against the government, as long as it's not threats.

If she wants to run around using objectionable/vile words, then blame people offended by them for "not having a sense of humor", then she'd damned well better expect to be called out on her behavior.

12. Good conservative strategy -- stroking their endless-martyr complexes.
The conservative celeb peanut gallery has to do this every so often, so they can renew their martyr certifications with their fan base.
