Mary Cheney, the openly gay first daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, gave hundreds of dollars in campaign contributions to a Senate candidate who opposes same-sex marriage, records show.

Cheney gave $500 on April 1 to Kelly Ayotte, a Republican 2010 Senate candidate from New Hampshire, according to the election records database Newsmeat. Ayotte is seeking to fill the seat of retiring GOP Sen. Judd Gregg.

1. Not surprising - Mary hates herself.
Unfortunately, I have met several rich homosexuals who don't want to marry. I think they want to keep all their money and not be forced to share with a spouse or children.

7. Thus is the effect of growing up Cheney....
I do sort of feel sorry for Mary--Elizabeth? Not so much.

3. There appears to be two sets of rules to live by.
Those who are lesser live by one, and those who are bigger live by another. Is Mary openly married?

4. I'm not impressed
For example, how many LGBT couples with children gave hundreds of dollars to the presidential campaign of Barack Obama? He too opposes same-sex marriage.

9. Obama's position is tortured. But I don't see him standing in the way of gay marriage in
states that have gay marriage. Have you seen him campaigning against gay marriage in Iowa for example? No.

6. So gay people must all be single-issue voters?
I can't say that I think much for her politics, but she obviously comes by it honestly. It's possible for a gay person to vote against her own best interests in one area (even one that you think is the most important area) if the balance of the other issues tilt the other way for you.

10. Civil rights for all is a pretty huge issue.
Mary Cheney must really hate herself to do things like this. I could never do that.

12. Of course it is.
But it isn't the ONLY issue. Nor even the only "pretty huge" issue.

I have trouble grasping being on one side of this and the other side of, say, abortion... but it's certainly her right to do so.
