3. he didn't 'equivocate'
. . . and these comedians don't need any prodding from the President to ridicule him in their cartoons.

These are full of shit.

4. Nope that's what he gets for making statements ...
that are too difficult for the average moran in the US to understand.

There was no "waffling", "flip flopping" or inconsistency whatsoever between the two statements he made last week.

In the first speech he affirmed the constitutional right of the group to build their cultural center wherever they wished. In the second he conceded that although they had every right to do so, it was not up to him whether or not they exercised their right.

WTF is so hard to understand about that?

7. "In the second he conceded " - that's the problem.
Edited on Wed Aug-18-10 12:04 PM by piratefish08
He first made a statement which affirmed his sworn duty to uphold the constitution. There WAS no point which needed conceding. It was only the pressure from the right and the media which made him feel compelled to make a second statement meant to soften the first.

So, I agree with you that he didn't exactly waffle, but he certainly showed weakness to the bigots and xenophobes that needed appeasing.

9. I Understand Your Point...
...However, there is an analogy here that might help us to understand why some feel he flip-flopped.

There is that old axiom that one should avoid even the "appearance of impropriety." The analogy is that any comment that even hints of backing off will be considered a complete turn-around.

There are some things that this administration has done that seems to reveal a political naivety. Some have even called it amateurish.

Someone is not thinking things through before they make comments or even make some policy decisions. There are cases where I believe had they had the political savvy to see the consequences of their actions, they would have acted differently.

I know that this may be a reach, but you cannot make a statement that even has the appearance of back-peddling because the other side will take advantage of it at levels that could make you appear to be a person that has no convictions or principles.

Just my take.
