1. I'll tell you where it is as I know the neighborhood.
It's on a side street, between West Broadway and Church. It's the second or third street from the WTC. Hardly any notable businesses as neighbors and notably missing are franchises of any kind. There are single proprietors with nondescript businesses. On week-ends, the area is nearly abandoned as there are no residents, grocery stores, or any particular reason to be there. The community center has the potential of revitalizing this area.

3. Ya think?
Could revitalization of the area bring more economic development? Maybe even a gentrification of this "sacred" area where pixi dust fell...

Don't mind me n_h. The STUPID, it BURNS!!!

4. My inclination is to think above and around The Stupid.
They are noise in my ear and I'll find a better way.

5. Google maps says it's between the Amish Market
which serves sushi and pizza(?) and some chain bar that sells buckets of Bud. Is that true?

Magnificent towers? Those towers were old white elephants. If they had been blown up with nobody in them, a lot of people would be saying thanks.

6. The trick is: don't allow them to provoke you
Edited on Wed Aug-18-10 01:05 PM by Bragi
I really like the calm way most New Yorkers seem to be handling this. Instead of allowing themselves to be provoked, they seem to be saying: "Well, go ahead and build your nice new community center, just be sure to send us an invite for the big opening."

Thing is, someone can only provoke if someone else lets them. The intelligent thing here is not to allow Tea Party idiots to provoke you on this.

"Sorry, I've no time for your provocation. Have a nice day."

Drives them crazy.

7. So
Our frame should be something like this?

There go the republicans again, trying to inject religion into politics.

8. That could work well
Edited on Wed Aug-18-10 01:35 PM by Bragi
You could then add: "I just don't see why I should allow myself to get all hot and bothered over where a group puts its community center, as long as they don't break any laws doing it."

13. Good for you
I read Lakoff's "Elephant" book and benefited mightily from it. I've intended to read his longer more academic tomes, but not gotten to it yet.

So how would you "frame" debate on harm reduction programs for addicts? Needle exchanges seem to be a fairly easy sell, supervised injection sites not so much.

Okay, okay, I know, I'm asking for a freebie.

Good luck with your work.
