Linda McMahon on Lance Cade: I might have met him once
Add a comment (0)
FORMER WWE CEO Linda McMahon has commented on the death of Lance Cade, saying: "I might have met him once."
The death of Cade from heart failure, aged only 29, has once again put the spotlight on early deaths in the wrestling business.

McMahon is currently running as the Republican candidate for a seat in the US Senate in her home State of Connecticut.

Her connection to the WWE — owned by husband Vince — has drawn fire from her Democrat opponents and some newspaper columnists and bloggers.

However she says the company cannot be held responsible for stars such as Cade dying young.

The Connecticut Post reports that when asked if she knew the former WWE Tag Team Champion, McMahon replied: "I might have met him once."

Reiterating the details of the WWE's Wellness Program, she then told reporters that WWE can no more be held accountable for deaths of performers "than a film studio could have prevented Heath Ledger's death".

McMahon added: "Who knows what causes people to have addictions and do what they do?"

I almost laughed at the Ledger comparision. Unless the studios were subtly encouraging Ledger to do drugs and then telling him his career was over if he went to rehab, it's not a good comparision.

3. No, it's a perfectly fair comparison.
Wellness violations carry suspensions and terminations and they are handed out quite frequently.

4. Except for all the loopholes

Interestingly, despite being (by his own admittance) a rampant drug user, Lance never actually failed a drug test in WWE. He was released after a seizure on a plane. Weird the wellness policy never spotted a problem he'd been having for months at this time. Probably because he had a prescription from a mark doctor and the policy is flawed in general.

5. "The company cannot be held responsible"
I mean, if you're going to do that, you'd have to blame BP for the totally unforeseeable act of God that fouled the Gulf of Mexico. Or hold Union Carbide responsible for the susceptibility of the people of Bhopal to being poisoned. It's surely not to be questioned where Mrs. McMahon derived the fabulous wealth she enjoys bought with the blood and lives of others. So stop it, and that right quick!

6. It is appalling what WWE has done to some performers
Chris Masters has actually been mocked on tv for obeying the policy and coming off steroids. I swear. No surprise he bulked up soon after.
