Fox 'News' latest propaganda campaign: Build a CHURCH, not a mosque, 'at Ground Zero'
While channel-surfing for coverage of the President's Ohio backyard town meeting, I was astounded by what I saw on Fox 'News' during the last half-hour, A Republican Congressional candidate (George Demos, 1st District, NY) was urging viewers to visit HIS website to support building a Greek Orthodox church at Liberty and Greenwich Streets, INSTEAD OF an Islamic cultural center on Park Place.

Googling got me this link: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/08/17/ground-zero-church-archdiocese-says-officials-forgot

IIRC, the Greek Orthodox congregation's old building was destroyed when a tower of the WTC fell on it. The Port Authority agreed to a new site truly AT Ground Zero until the Greek Orthodox leaders insisted on having a gold dome taller than the planned Ground Zero Memorial (Demos failed to mention this).

IMO you've got to give this guy Demos credit for a bizarrely warped kind of creative political opportunism.

WHAT's YOUR OPINION?

3. I don't care who builds what , where. They should have just rebuilt the towers like they were. No
memorial other than a plaque on the wall. But if one religion can build something, then so can all others. If one can't, than nobody should be allowed to do so.

6. Office vacancies are at about 10% in downtown Manhattan

This article is happy that the rate last month is down to that - the lowest since April 2009. http://www.observer.com/2010/real-estate/city-vacancies-fall-lowest-point-april-2009

I don't think in ANY time since 2001, there has been enough demand for a developer to get the kind of rate of return needed. I suspect that is why no one really worked hard to resolve all the fights to get building started.

Rebuilding the towers as they were might be emotionally satisfying, but if you were a CEO, would you rent space there on a high floor? Would you want to work there?

7. Good idea. But this time don't let someone from the Bush family head building security.

4. Since no one is building a mosque at ground zero
The whole thing is rabble-rousing over a false premise.

Reminds me of Gilda Radner's Roseann Rosannadanna protesting about the proposed "Eagle Rights Amendment"

5. Inspired by a cartoon from yesterday, I vote for building a mosque on
top of the new World Trade Center building(s).
