10 Young Right-Wingers Being Prepped to Take Over the Conservative Movement |
|
Readers, what follows is a comprehensive roundup of the guys and gals who will for the next half-century wield an increasing level of influence within the conservative movement and/or the Grand Old Party (assuming the latter isn’t reduced to a regional coffee klatch after the imminent desertion of Hispanic voters). This is the lovechild of The Breakfast Club and the Laffer curve. http://www.alternet.org/media/147804/10_young_right-wingers_being_prepped_to_take_over_the_conservative_movement/?page=1

5. Young? They're all approaching or in middle age |
|
That leaves us with the knowledge of what a massive gerontocracy the GOP has become (and the DLC, as well, since few of the truly young are buying a word of conservative dogma from anyone these days).
The only real true believer the GOP has is the Generation Sucker, someone born at between the end of the Great Depression and the end of the Second World War, beneficiaries of the New Deal who couldn't wait to dismantle it. Too old for the partying in the 60s, they've never forgiven the Boomers for enjoying it and for ending their fabulous war that they were too old to fight.
The Gen Xers and second Boomer cohort, also supporters of Reagan's brand of snake oil, have mostly realized the stuff was poison and grudgingly support Democrats, albeit grateful for the secret ballot while they do it.
Those "young" conservatives are betting on the wrong horse, trying to keep a failed and dying movement alive. While fluffing the super rich might still be a lucrative profession, they're not going to get much traction politically.
