Why I'm not dancing on Falwel's grave
1) I don't think he's been buried yet. Even if he was, it's probably not around here, and I'm not willing to go very far for him, even for this.

2) Why give him more attention?

3) The man had a car to sell. Like so many other "right wingers," he had a product. You think he believed in what he was selling? He believed that getting people all worked up about religion, hating gays, teletubbies, or Ernie and Bert would get them in the Rebublican camp, and he was right.

Falwel, like Rush Limbaugh, Fox news and the rest don't believe in God, they aren't religious - hell, they're probably more atheist than me. It isn't about that. It's about keeping people in line, saying the right talking points, getting the country to go in the most profitable direction. Bush is the same way. He says what he needs to say to get people to follow him. Spreading freedom? It's just a trademark, a sales pitch.

Falwel said some pretty hateful things but really, he didn't mean it. It was just part of his sales pitch to get people to buy his car. If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at the people who are the market for these comments.

1. He was just another snake oil salesman,
He hurt a lot of people with his product.

2. I see what you're saying and this salesman sold his country's miltary men and women's lives for
a few lousy bucks.

3. And for power too.
Don't ever forget, these guys love the power as much as the money. Power is their aphrodisiac.

4. I don't want to draw any more attention to Falwell than is necessary.
The guy was a huge asshole, and letting him and his cabal interfere with our government was one of the biggest mistakes we've ever made in this country. So I don't want to give him any more air time now that he's gone.

5. Why the world is better off without Falwell and those like him...
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It's the only thing that there's just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
No not just for some but for everyone.

Is it a sign that you lived a Christian life when people celebrate your death? Did the crowd celebrate Jesus death, because he belittled them and condemned them day after day after day…?

I think not...

This is what aggravates me about so-called Christians, today. They are as much like Jesus as my dog is like duck tape. This is not how Jesus instructed His followers to live. He said to love one another, to forgive; judge not that ye be not judged…

There’s a hymn sung often in the Baptist churches, “Let others see Jesus in you.” I don’t see Jesus described in these Falwell posts. Jesus said “Get the log out or your eye before you worry about the splinter in your brother’s eye.” and “Let he among you without sin cast the first stone.” and “Go and sin no more”. and “Bessed are the Peacemakers.” and “Love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.”

Something was seriously wrong with Jerry Falwell as it is with so many so-called Christians in this generation. Jesus said whatsoever entereth into a man cannot defile him… That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man….For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts…

But by the grace of God I am what I am…

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

The world is a much better place without Jerry Falwell and those like him in it…

6. I disagree.
Unfortunately, I think Jerry actually believed what he said.

It was Gingrich, PNAC, and others who took what he said and used it for political gain. Falwell thought it was an opportunity to not only spread his understanding of Gospel, but also to convert this nation, becoming "moral."

I don't doubt that he had faith.... it was the content that I had trouble with.
