PALAST EXCLUSIVE: Capt. Iglesias, Obstruction of Justice and the Rove-Bot Theft of 2008

Palast Exclusive: AN ARMY OF ROVE-BOTS
Captain Iglesias, Obstruction of Justice, and the Theft of 2008...

*** Special to The BRAD BLOG by Greg Palast

"The wheels have come off, the engine is on fire and no one is driving," Captain David Iglesias told me yesterday. I'd asked the Naval Reserve officer, heading off to duty in Norfolk, why he didn't want his old job back, United States Attorney for New Mexico.

The busted, burning, ghost-mobile he described is the Department of Justice, driven by Alberto Gonzales. Or is Karl Rove at the wheel? Or no one? Whomever, he didn't want to jump back into Bush's Justice Jalopy.

Today, Iglesias is in Washington to pull the junker off the road, meeting with the Office of Special Counsel where Obstruction of Justice may be swirling around in the old oil pan laying on the garage floor....

2. I think Schumer and all the rest on the Judiciary recognize
especially after yesterdays hearing with Comey, exactly what went on and is still continuing. Let's see what they DO with that info!

10. I hear what you're saying
but it will only be special if something concrete comes of it.

I can't even count the number of "special days" that I thought would be a turning point, only to be let down again. It just NEVER ends.

Frankly, I'm not sure how long I can take this. My outrage meter broke a LONG TIME AGO.

The wheels of justice turn slowly? I'm wondering, are they even moving?

</HUGE sigh>

WaPo: Gonzo lied AGAIN! 26 prosecutors were on hit list!
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/5/16/213726/992

And apparently, the Senator contacted one Monica Goodling who, scribbled on a notepad: "Iglesias - Domenici says he doesn't move cases." Oops. Goodling, a political stooge working for Gonzales, was listing the reasons for firing US attorneys. Now, rudeness was no longer the issue. Firing a prosecutor for failing to "move cases" --- handcuff citizens at the request of a Senator --- is Obstruction of Justice.

From Evans-Novak Political Report ...

Rove's former assistant, Susan Ralston, is currently seeking immunity to testify before Waxman's committee. Ralston is a former assistant to Jack Abramoff, the disgraced Washington super-lobbyist and Republican fund-raiser. As Rove's gatekeeper, she became special assistant to the President and the highest-ranking Filipino-American in the administration. For Waxman, she is a link between Abramoff and Rove. Ralston was deposed behind closed doors prior to her request for immunity. According to her friends, she has nothing to say that would cause problems for Rove. Her request for immunity was forwarded to the Justice Department, whose recommendation may or may not be followed by Congress.

12. Thanks for trying to cheer me up
I read all three of those before I posted, and this drip, drip, drip, is driving me nuts! Why hasn't the dam burst yet? I just don't understand why it's taking so damn long!

Here's a diary over at DailyKos that you may have read. It pretty much sums up my frustration, and provides a little hope that some prominent congresscritter will put 2 & 2 together:

Do they have to be caught eating puppies?

4. Palast says he contacted Leahy's office and he was "oddly indifferent."
This week, I contacted the office of Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy about the Griffin appointment to which they seemed oddly indifferent. His aide said, "Well, Griffin's just an interim appointee."

True, Griffin has promised to leave --- right after the 2008 election.

Prosecutor-gate is not about Gonzales' incompetence. It's not about appointing "loyal Bushies." It's not even about firing A Few Good Men.

It's about the 2008 election and changing the Department of Justice --- the agency charged with protecting voters --- into an army of Rove-bots...programmed to attack them.

5. He talked to an aide, not Leahy. BIG difference. Leahy is not indifferent
and he is out there on ther front line. Someone may give him the Frank Church award, if not another "Go f**k yourself."

When attempting to contact a Senator, for those who don't know one personally, I recommend determining which aide is the one to communicate with.
