About Fred Phelps.
It seems the reason the right hates him is because he hates the troops. But in many other ways, he is like the right wingers. He speaks hatred towards homosexuals and Jews etc. If he didn't protest troop's funerals, and only protested the funerals of gay people like he used to, I bet the right wing would love him. He would be seen as an underground hero. They would love him at Free Republic. Anyone else think so? I bet if Phelps was pro American, he would be Falwell, and Robertson's best friends. The right wing hates Phelps, because he treats them the way they treat us. But on the other hand, Phelps speaks out in public the hate that many of the rightwingers feel, but are too afraid to speak in public.

1. I think the establishment RRR would still avoid him because he's simply
batshit crazy.

Not to mention, check out his screed on the godhatesamerica website; he's have nothing to do with the likes of Pat robertson.

3. yeah they avoid him because he is anti American.
But minus his anti Americanism, he speaks what many of the people on Free Republic say. Like when Falwell said Sept 11 was caused by gay people, Phelps agrees with him.

2. He is just a very sick man
who needs the Saviour he pretends to proclaim.

4. He's been protesting funerals for over 20 years. It was just in the past few
that people have really talked about him being nuts. So, yeah, it is the troop hating that makes the right not like him.

6. That's because picketing gay funerals is not hateful or crazy
At least, not according to the folks who started speaking up when WBC began picketing military funerals. As much as I hate the Phelps Klan, I despise the bigots who had previously been silent.

5. The biggest difference between Fred and let's say Jerry
is that Fred was very sincere in his beliefs. By that I mean he did not sway with the wind of public opinion. He has a f**ked view of the bible on the subject but believes it. Jerry and his ilk prostitute themselves on the alter of power and change their views based on what will get them greater power.
