Poll question: How do you browse in DU? |
|
What's your main page on DU...the one you use to choose threads to read and participate in? There are many ways a DUer can look at DU to find posts of interest. I'm interested in seeing how DUers use this site. So, if you don't mind, please take this poll. I think it would be really interesting information, and it might be educational, to boot:

But there is often a lot to be learned in those battles if the debate is fair. And that's the biggest reason why I go looking for those fights too. It's sometimes pretty interesting. Even if a thread is otherwise useless, the mod locking statement is often worth a chuckle.

6. You're right. I just discovered that one, myself. It might make |
|
a good addition to the icon list at the top of all the pages. It's very useful.

3. I go to the Latest page except when I go to the Lounge. |
|
In my years at DU I have only specifically gone to the Greatest page maybe 3 times. I don't base the worth of a thread by it popularity (meaning I believe there is way too much obsession here at DU about Rec/UnRec).

11. I check the Home page several times a day for the headlines. If I have more time, I read the Latest |
|
When I am in for a long read, I will scan the titles in GD, E/E, and of course the Lounge.

I start at MY DU. I go from there to forums that interest me, and browse through the first couple of pages. Sometimes I check the greatest or latest when I'm done.

15. General Discussion is my DU home page |
|
Sometimes I will look at GD - Politics but not much, because it is usually the types of threads that I know will be there and not of interest to me.
Sometimes I will look at the Latest news forum to see if there is any news I might have missed. The only forum I participate in however is General Discussion.
I don't ever go to the Greatest page, I don't care about that stuff.

16. I just start by reading the LBN forum... |
|
... then move on to GD:P and then GD. I haven't settled on just one forum; I'd miss too much that way.
I never check out the 'Latest' page or look at recs or most popular threads or anything. I look for thread titles in those three forums that sound interesting. Once in a great while I go to the Lounge, but just for a quick glance.
And I hardly ever post on any of the forums. Usually someone has already said what I think or I don't have anything profound to add to what has already been said.

21. I always enter DU from the Home page. |
|
I love the overview it provides of 4 diferent forums at once, plus I love seeing which threads are in the "Greatest" list.
From there I might click on any number of different links: an LBN post that catches my interest, or a thread title in Editorials, or one of the Journals on the right side of the page, or just one of the forum headings.
I usually end up parked in GD, but I click over to the Latest every once in awhile to see what else is happening in other forums.
I must admit, I'm surprised so few people use the Home page. It's such a great window into so much of DU at a glance.

30. Is there an unspoken rule here... |
|
... about posting on just one of the forums? Or some sort of DU etiquette about that?
It just occurred to me that maybe it's not the norm to post on more than one forum, like LBN and GD:P and GD. I don't have many posts but haven't paid attention to where I'm posting and maybe I should?
