KERRY: "I don’t care about the future of the Republican Party-I care about the safety of our troops"
The heated meeting between the GOP moderates and Bush continued to reverberate through Capitol Hill yesterday, after several Republican conservatives told reporters that they shared the moderates’ fears that the war is wrecking the party. “There is no liberal-conservative divide on Iraq,” said one House GOP conservative, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of angering the White House further. (Washington Post, 5/11/07 http://thinkprogress.org/2007/05/13/iraq-liberal-conservative)

I don’t care about the future of the Republican Party; I care about the safety of our troops and the strength of our security – but if political pressure will bring these Republicans to a place of common sense and conscience in standing up to their President, then that’s what it takes.

So today we vote again. I’m proudly standing up and declaring my support for the Feingold-Reid amendment. And I urge all of you to contact your Senators and let them know how you feel on this most important issue.

This fight is not going to be over until we get a new course in Iraq. I promise you that.

1. That is a great statement from Kerry and I agree,
I don’t care about the future of the Republican Party either but if it will get our troops home, fine.

2. As usual, Kerry pulls no punches and lays it out quite clearly.
Republicans - putting party before country

4. Kerry - right again.
This is a big issue for pubs running in '08. Time is running out for W and the "progress" he's been citing for 4 years. Thanks to Senator Kerry for turning up the heat.

The electorate won't be kind to Rs not willing to change course or those who constantly vote against real support for our troops and veterans - i.e. equipment, training and medical care. Those who continue to support this administration do so at their electoral peril.

OT - For all the good Dems running, I still think Kerry is best for the job...IMHO :-)

5. I'm going to pre-empt the Kerry-haters here and just sum up everything
they're going to say on this thread, when they decide to make their presence known:

"Why couldn't he have talked like that in 2004?"

Okay, now that's done - you don't have to post it yourselves now.

8. Where was this manifestation of John Kerry in 2004 when we needed him?
This Kerry 3.0 model could have wiped the floor with Herr Decider and Karl Rove.

10. I have only begun to realize what a great man Kerry is.
We were duped by the media. I did not see how great he was/is. What he has accomplished went nearly unnoticed or absconded by others.

John Kerry is right on.

11. “There is no liberal-conservative divide on Iraq,”
That's funny because they seemed to be pretty much split along party lines when it came to overriding Bush's funding veto. As usual don't believe what Republican's say. Watch what they do.
