I'm never waiting till the last minute to call my senators ever again.
I just heard my senator disappoint me greatly. By voting No on cloture for the Feingold/Reid amendment, Sen. Webb betrayed my trust in him and my faith that he would do the right thing. After hearing his no, I called his office and asked why he wasn't supporting the amendment. A staff member told me she didn't know if he was going to support it - he had been thinking and talking about it with staff up until the last minute. What does that tell me? That he wasn't getting the landslide of calls from constituents that he needed to get. That's my fault. I should have called. I'm ashamed.

This time, I waited until I heard the disappointment on the floor. I won't wait so long next time. All of you who read this, please do the same.

2. What the hell are they thinking?
This seems to be a slam dunk to me. Why vote against cloture?

3. You really mean that? Here's your do-over...

From UFPJ, via email...

...Next week, the Senate will vote on a new version of the supplemental war funding bill. We don't know the details yet, but it looks like the Senate leadership will yield to White House pressure by giving the president $95 billion to continue the war without any fixed timeline for the withdrawal of U.S. troops. Next week, we'll remind you to call your senators again to make sure they know that a vote for Feingold-Reid is not a substitute for voting against the supplemental.

Your calls DO make a difference. Last week, 171 members of the House of Representatives voted for an immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq when they voted in support of the McGovern amendment. This was a major step forward for the peace movement -- we did not expect to get more than 125 votes! We need a similar (if not better!) showing in the Senate on the Feingold-Reid amendment.

Call the Congressional Switchboard to be connected to your senators' offices: 202-224-3121. (If you do not know who your senators are, click here.)

Tell both of your senators:

* Vote Yes on the Feingold-Reid amendment (amendment no. 1098) today.
* Vote No on the supplemental war funding bill next week.

Don't wait... call TODAY.

NGU.

5. No replies to this post :( Please call and ask why we are
supporting the draft oil law that the Iraq Oil Union is opposing that will give corporations large profits and control over Iraq's resources for years to come and possibly generate blowback.
