Feds to pump $40M into Space Coast (Florida)

Two recommendations from the President's Task Force on Space Industry Workforce & Economic Development could result in about $40 million for Florida’s Space Coast.

The President's Task Force on Space Industry Workforce & Economic Development said the federal government should “prime the pump” of the Space Coast economy by committing $5 million in 2011 for the creation of a new Commercial Spaceflight Technical Center.

The center would support the efforts of the Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration in commercial space launch and reentry activities.

A second recommendation from the task force would funnel $35 million in grants to promising job creation and economic development programs. A fast-track competitive grant process will be offered by the Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA) through a competition that will start Sept. 1.
