Elderly Central Florida man accidentally shoots wife during 'robbery drill'

A 72-year-old woman was accidentally shot in the chest by her husband Sunday morning at a home in the 3600 block of Detroit Street in Canaveral Groves, the Brevard County Sheriff's Office reported.

About 10:35 a.m., Arnold Morris, 76, was practicing what to do in case of a robbery with Patricia, his wife of 54 years, Brevard County Sheriff's Office Lt. Linda Moros said. During the robbery scenario, he shot her in the chest with a .380-caliber pistol, Moros said.

"They were very unfamiliar with handguns. It was a pure accident," Moros said.

After the shooting, Arnold Morris called 9-1-1 and provided medical attention until sheriff's deputies arrived. Brevard County Fire-Rescue dispatched a medical helicopter to fly Patricia Morris to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, where she underwent surgery Sunday afternoon, Moros said. She is expected to make a full recovery. No charges are planned, Moros said.

1. List of things to do in case of robbery...
Pull out gun.
Shoot wife.

Sounds like a NRA safety course.

3. The poor guy...
What's got him so spooked that he felt he had to practice what to do in case of a robbery with Patricia, his wife of 54 years.
And then during the robbery scenario, he shot her in the chest with a .380-caliber pistol.

Thank God she's going to be OK because I can't imagine how bad he's feeling right about now.

What drives this kind of fear?
FOX NEWS. FAIR AND BALANCED.

9. Poor people
Just another scared family that republicans are telling that the government is going to take away their social security, and then send them to the death panel.

(See? I can take an article even as remote as this, and turn it into another "bash th repukes" meme! I can probably do it better than Palin can!(but the reverse))

24. Jesus Christ! They really do believe that shit.
My dad was recently diagnosed with bladder cancer, and he's getting excellent treatment paid for by Medicare. He's almost certainly going to survive. And my mother is telling everyone within earshot, "Thank God it happened now, because in a couple of years once this healthcare bill takes effect, they won't treat stuff like this because we're too old. They'll just let us die." He's 71 and she's 68. THEY FUCKING BELIEVE THAT!

12. At some age, people who want guns and cars should be trained, tested, and licensed each year by law.
Let's say 65 for drivers and whatever the state's minimum gun ownership age is for guns.

14. Why not?
A man got off from manslaughter charges in Central Florida this year for shooting his fiancee the night before their wedding. She arrived late at night and he was four feet away when he pulled the trigger. Grand jury didn't even find him guilty of manslaughter.

Oh, and he was white. If had been black probably would have been charged with murder.

15. And this is tragic
at least she will make a full recovery.

First rule of guns

Always assume it is loaded

Second rule of guns.

NEVER EVER aim at anybody unless you are willing to pull the trigger.

27. Rules, WTF
rules are like laws and that equals "gun control". You want them to take away your guns?

:sarcasm:

16. I feel bad for this guy and his wife, but
one should NEVER ever even point a loaded gun at someone, much less firing it. And I really don't see the need for a "robbery drill".

I'm glad the woman is going to be okay, though.

25. I learned that when I was about three years old.
Dad: "Don't even point a toy gun at someone, because you might someday pick up a real one and not realize it. Aim the toys guns over their heads when you're playing. Just don't point any kind of gun at anyone ever. Except a clear plastic watergun. Those are all right."

30. A Man Playing This Sort Of Game When In His Seventies, Ma'am, Suggests Nothing Good
Pretend derring-do is something for seven year olds, not seventy year olds.

It is unlikely to eb the first time this has been done.

One wonders how many times games like this have been played in that household down the years, just how much effort the man has put into inculcating fear and paranoia into his spouse through the decades.
