Chad Reed Treated at San Diego Medical Facility
Edited on Tue Aug-24-10 09:31 AM by MineralMan
http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-sport/virus-rules-reed-out-for-australian-team-20100824-13q7f.html

Chad Reed, two-time World Supercross Champion, is being treated in a San Diego Facility for Epstein-Barr virus. Normally, this virus doesn't cause serious illness, but Reed has been forced to cancel his participation in an important race due to the condition. He came from his home in Australia to the San Diego facility to try to shake the illness, and hopes to return to racing soon.

I hope he has good insurance. That kind of thing can be very costly.

1. Note: For those wondering why I posted this,

I noticed a sticky up on the top of DU that mentioned someone named Chad Reed. So, I did a Google News search to see who that was, and discovered that there was a breaking news story about him there. So, I thought others might wonder who this person was, and posted a link to that story. I know it's not political news, but there's that sticky, and people might have a question.

So, there ya go. He's an Australian motocross champion. Lots of people follow motocross. I cross-posted the story over in Sports, too.

I also found the Wikipedia entry for Chad Reed. I guess he's more famous than I thought: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chad_Reed

19. Maybe the health forum too
I think there is someone who has Epstein-Barr over there. They might want to know how bad this illness can be. I wonder if the fever can get so high it causes hallucinations?

22. I guess it could be. I've never had it, but I hear it can be pretty
bad. Put you right out of your mind, and that...

3. I guess I just have too much time on my hands, if I'm searching
for names I find on DU stickies. But, this one turned out to be pretty interesting, after all. I used to do a little motorcycle enduro riding, back in the 1960s, so I'm still interested, although I don't ride any longer. This Chad Reed guy seems like quite the competitor. Hope he gets better soon.

to racing. DU is indeed international.

Anyone else think that those dirtbikes sort of sound like chainsaws?

7. Chainsaws? Not so much any longer.
Well, they sure used to, when all of the dirt bikes were "ring-ding-ding" two-strokes. But almost all have four-stroke engines now, so they've lost that chainsaw sound quality. They're still as loud as the dickens though. It's just as well, I used to hear my neighbor's kid riding up and down the street on his dirt bike, and always wondered if someone was cutting down a dead tree or something.

9. Thought The Same Thing On My Mom's Farm, Thought Someone Was Cutting Down Her Trees
But it was some kids riding dirtbikes in the back pasture.

10. Dirt Bikes can cause some serious damage to the environment,
if ridden off trail.

11. I Was Actually More Concerned That It Was Someone Cutting Down Her Beautiful Trees
She has a whole crop of georgous old elms in the woods behind her house.

12. Lucky her. Here in St. Paul, there aren't any. They all got
Dutch Elm Disease and died. Now, we're losing the ash trees, too, due to the Emerald Ash Borer. It's a shame. And like most cities, we have an Elm Street and an Ash Street. At one time, they were probably lined with their namesake trees. No more. It's a pity.

8. It turns out that Chad Reed moved to the USA in 2002,
so I guess he doesn't live in Australia any longer. He's still pretty popular there, though. At first, I thought he'd flown over here for treatment, which seemed surprising, since I think they have a national health care system in Australia. Now, it makes sense.

"Many people have said to me 'everything happens for a reason', this train wreck of a year has forced some changes in my program which I think have been a blessing in disguise.

Makes him look sinister.
