2. I guess they threw in a Red state |
|
I would be a big supporter of this program if they did not demand that test scores be used to evaluate teachers.

5. It's got a lot of problems |
|
Though I don't see how it makes any less sense than basing it on seniority.

8. I agree, especially since many school districts are not equal. |

3. I was so happy when my state didn't qualify for RTTT money, |
|
Yes, it has left the state strapped for education money, but it prevents, for now, a further assault on education that RTTT brings in.

And they're already giving a ton of support to charters. Not sure if this is really going to have any impact for the school system...
(Editing to add: Rhee talks up a big "budget crisis", which is pretty much manufactured because it lets her lay off teachers she can't fire.)

6. We got it here in Maryland. |
|
Which is surprising to me because there was little cooperation from anyone here.
We already have top-ranked school systems in many parts of this state.

Hopefully, this will not lower MA standards too much.

Not financial, but quality-wise. Instead of offering this money so all states can improve, Arne is dangling it only in front of those that are willing to do it his way: teach to the test, and charterize everything that isn't nailed down.

11. I'm glad my state declined to compete this round. |
|
It's my sincere hope that we NEVER try to qualify for RTTT funds.
