The idea of being trapped under 2500 feet of rock for 4 months is just profoundly,
gut-wrenchingly, depressing.

I think I'd rather have them start blasting the first 2000 feet of that rock out of the way and risk the roof caving in on me and killing me than to have to be jammed into a room the size of a studio apartment, in the dark, with 33 other people for four months.

What a bittersweet situation for all involved...

3. In 3 months, he'll be thin
They're not gonna be snacking on hostess cup cakes down there. They've got several problems to negotiate and hydration and calories are among them. They're also gonna wanna.... How do I put this delicately????.... manage their waste output? I can imagine them being fed diets that will minimize waste output. To be quite honest, if they could find a way to make those guys fall into a coma for about 3 months, they'd be doing them a bit of a favor. The problem would be hydration mostly. I've heard they haven't been told yet how long it will take. This could be one heck of an impromptu study in human behavior. And not a pretty one.

2. Well, they'll be able to drop lights, oxygen when necessary,
food, water, and possibly newspapers. Unfortunately, radios won't do a hell of a lot of good for entertainment at that depth, but there is communication with the top already set up.

Blasting straight down isn't the option. Digging a shaft nearby and then digging across is the plan.

6. I would need to be heavily medicated.
I like caving even though I'm claustrophobic, that's what gives me the adrenaline rush, but this? I'd lose it.

7. I would want to live even if it took them a year or more to dig me out...

I would remember prisoners of war in history that struggled to survive each day, many often being tortured as well, herded and crammed tightly into cattle cars, living in filth or their own and/or other's excrement and being bitten by snakes, rats and bugs, getting next to nothing to eat, maybe at best watery soup, gruel and stale bread, brackish water to drink that caused severe diarrhea, or maggot covered, rotting meat to eat, and never knowing if the next day would be their last.
