NEW YORK What's going on? Gallup reports today a sudden plunge in its regular "satisfaction" index. Only 25% of Americans now say they satisfied with the state of their country -- down 8% in just one month -- and one of the lowest ever measured.

"The current 25% satisfaction level is very low by historical standards," Gallup explained. "Since Gallup first asked this question in 1979, the average percentage of Americans saying they are satisfied with conditions in the country is 43%."

Iraq continues to weigh the most on minds. "Even though skyrocketing gas prices may contribute to the public's sour mood this month," the organization revealed, "the issue is not mentioned by an especially high percentage of Americans as the nation's top problem."

The latest poll finds 45% of Republicans saying they are satisfied, compared with only 12% of Democrats. Over the past month, satisfaction fell more among Democrats, suggesting that some of them may be souring on their party's actions or inactions in Congress....

2. The price of gas is "What's going on", imo
Only when it hits the pocket of the average citizen do become concerned, sadly.

9. govrenment can be fixed -- it's the stuff i can't fix that has me
concerned.

corporations who treat the tax treasury as the new ever renewing Gold Mine, outsourcing jobs so fast that it makes my head spin, and inability to make a paycheck that makes a difference, the corporate access to power, etc.

in other words there is -- it seems to me -- to be a certain set of folk who are working against the country -- or a certain segment of the country.

politicians can be jerked back to reality -- unelected oligarchs -- not so much.

10. Stop representing the corporations and begin representing the people
Edited on Wed May-16-07 12:48 PM by Lone_Star_Dem
It's as easy as that. However for politicians they reason it out that they can't be elected without the money to get the votes, which they'll never raise unless they put the corporation's interest first. It's a circle that if not broken will, and already nearly has, be the cause of the breaking of the back of America.

Edit: clarity

15. That's the point, Lone-Star-Dem: People want the New Deal Dems back in power,
and the DLC is preventing this move. How did you like the "spin" that this article put on things? They're trying now to convince people that it's because people are somehow DISSATISFIED with Dems having control of congress. While that is somewhat TRUE -- most of us wanted impeachment and backbone, and legislation that helps turn things back around (which Dems can't really do with such a small majority in the Senate, and Johnson STILL out and not voting) . But rather than the article saying that "people are dissatisfied with the fact that nobody in congress is representing the PEOPLE, but are instead representing the powerful corporations", they try to make it look like the Dems are the latest problem.

The corporate owned Dems are a huge part of the problem, but the POPULIST Dems are the ones whose voices have been silenced by all the corporate-money-corrupted Dems and 100% of the corporate-money-corrupted repukes.

Think we should be doing MORE in the middle east, MORE to prosecute the 'War on Terror', that we should be killing MORE insurgents...

14. Democratic politicians deserve credit for the Senate hearing exposing corruption
I don't think the public realizes how hard the Democrats are trying. And the Democrats are taking big risks opposing trade deals--a position the public *should* appreciate.

I just don't know somedays
