Baucus Didn't Read Health Care Bill

Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) one of the main authors of the new health care law, admitted in a Montana town hall meeting that he did not read the entire 2,400 page piece of legislation, according to the Flathead Beacon.

Said Baucus: "I don't think you want me to waste my time to read every page of the health care bill. You know why? It's statutory language. We hire experts."

To anyone who has worked in the U.S. Senate this is not at all surprising but the politics of this line of attack has dogged Democrats for months.

1. Specialization, some people are better at getting elected.

Others are better at writing legislation.

However that means when you elect someone, you need to know what is behind them, find the casters in the back, not the tanks in the front.

Unless a candidate shows they care about items, and don't just let someone write policy, but also thinks, feels and writes on the stuff themselves.

delegation does make sense, but when people run for office, they should, if honest be listing who is on the groups they delegate their authority to. And when voting, people should know who different officials are working for, or delegating authority to.

I think the CBO does much of that stuff, according to a few comments made. But that is just a guess from some news reports.

2. What DOES Baucus do with his presumably valuable time?
It seems to me that reading and understanding legislation would be part of a Congress Rep's job responsibilities.

3. Republican Senators didn't need to read it to know they were against it.

5. You won't want to hear it, but he's right. I doubt any senator read it...

...including Feingold, or Sherrod Brown, or Dick Durbin, or your favorite 'good guy', in its entirety, since it was fundamentally unreadable. A third or more of it consists soley of cross-references to other laws, and federal regulations, changed, amended, repealed or superseded by the bill, sometimes cross-referencing single words.
