Anybody try the CREDO HTC Hero smartphone yet?
Thinking about doing it...anyone have any experience, up or down?

Would welcome your comments...

3. I have Credo and I love them
But I'm not interested in one of those "smart phones" that do everything but take out your trash. I generally just use my phone to make calls so I have no desire for thousands of "apps". I can definitely recommend Credo, though.

4. I'm ambivalent about this phone.
Edited on Wed Aug-25-10 03:43 PM by backscatter712
It doesn't have a 1 GHz processor, it doesn't have as much memory as other phones, some of the reviews online say it's slow.

I guess that's the disadvantage of going through CREDO - they're a good company, but because they piggyback on Sprint's network, they're stuck with Sprint's hand-me-down phones and can't offer the new hotness.

The Hero does have the virtue of being much cheaper than other Android phones though.

7. I left CREDO a while back and it didn't bother my conscience one bit
and why should it have?

what percentage of my monthly bill was going to support progressive causes? 1% or perhaps 50 cents?

i gave many times that amount on my own and in fact, gave more after leaving CREDO.

and it does appear that the phones are not as recent and the plans more costly --and the difference in price appears to far exceed the amount going to progressive causes.

furthermore, i've never found their material very clear on what proportion of my charges they donate.

was it 1%? with long distance it was...but the mobile part wasn't clear.

8. I've had the opposite experience
Edited on Wed Aug-25-10 04:09 PM by NMMNG
I switched from Verizon to Credo. I don't need the latest gadgets so I'm happy with my phone. My rates were already lower than they had been with Verizon. Then a few months ago when my contract was due for renewal Credo actually called offering to lower my monthly rates for the same services, so my bill was essentially cut in half. The fact that I'm supporting progressive causes (even if it's only a few pennies a month), and my money is *not* going to RW corporations/causes, is icing on the cake.

11. the only argument i can validate is not helping RW corporations
as for the rest, i just priced CREDO's offerings and found them far more than the Sprint service they actually serve you with.

for example, with Sprint, you could get a $69/month plan
450 minutes (unlimited minutes to any mobile number)
unlimited texting
unlimited data

at CREDO, using the same network $104/month
450 minutes $59 (and no offer of unlimited minutes to ALL mobile phones)
unlimited texting $15
unlimited data $30

$69 Sprint versus $104 CREDO?

and how much of the difference goes to our causes? $1/month maybe?

13. I see where the differences lie
I don't use the text plan or data plans, which keeps my bill very low (I get 100 minutes for $20, and 200 free "bonus minutes" each month). I also rarely use even half those minutes. But I can see where Credo might not be good for people who use lots of minutes and other features.

18. Your $55 approximately go to GOP contributing, NSA spying Sprint anyway.
Since theirs is the network that CREDO uses.

Most CREDO customers don't know that. CREDO is the Whole Foods of mobile phone companies.

15. certainly not my experience
I am glad to be a Credo customer and they do champion good causes, but let's be honest they have to make some profit to keep operating. They have been the most honest phone company I have found and far better than any other I have heard about.

6. I would say the Hero is already past it's prime to be honest
http://www.htc.com/www/product/hero/specification.html

Those are the specs. The RAM is a nonstarter for me and that processor is aging but acceptable depending on your usage because it only has to push a comparatively small screen.

The other concern is it might be stuck on Android 1.6 (have to check on that but its a year old do that should be expected) so you'd be to generations behind and approaching three with 3.0 on the horizon unless you want to root it.

I looked at it a bit too but I hate to be stuck with something so limited when these things will be running dual cores and 2 ghz processors within 6 months and 512 ram is standard today.

It might suit you well though if you aren't looking to consolidate your small electronics into one device and portable computer replacement.

9. My boyfriend just got one. He seems to like it. He switched from an iPhone.
Mostly it was because Credo has a better plan for his needs than ATT. So far his only complaint is that the camera doesn't have a flash.

10. I Prefer The Palm Pre + On Verizon
It's $50 bucks with a 2-year agreement, comes with free mobile hotspot capability and has a nice app (both official and homebrew) selection. The OS is very customizable and it's not nearly as cumbersome as the Android or iPhones.

12. i'm keeping webos till the great "fall update" they keep talking about..
it will FINALLY have a voice API. can't believe i'm carrying a phone without voice dial. the first phone i bought in 1999 had voice dial for crying out loud! and where's flash? we were promised flash back in feb. like i said, i'm staying with this phone till the next big update. if i'm not satisfied (and it seems that updates are breaking more stuff on my phone than improving), then i'm getting an EVO.

14. I have Credo
and happy with them. I was with Verizon before - Credo's plans are better. I like my phone - they gave it to me free. I have 1,000 minutes and 1,000 texts for $53.00 I can talk to a Credo user unlimited and make calls on weekends wherever for nothing.

20. Do you have an original or a Plus.
I have a plus and the flash seems to work fine. I agree about the voice command feature though. What a PITA that is. I used to use it almost exclusively to make calls and look up contact info on my Treo. I really, really like everything else about the phone though.

bought my phone from sprint a couple weeks after release. my current phone is a replacement for the original, as i was experiencing all kinds of issues with the handset after one update.

Adobe Flash is what i meant to say. the camera flash works great!

check your bill, you are paying their taxes on top of your service and extra fees. Verizon is a rip off.
