Edited on Wed Aug-25-10 06:07 PM by wndycty
I just heard this on the radio. Has DU been talking about this and I missed it?

Interesting the former head of the GOP is gay? I heard the rumors but his coming out is pretty huge.

More for HuffPo, sorry if this has already been posted:

Ken Mehlman, who headed the Republican National Committee between 2005 and 2007, has come out in an interview with the Atlantic's Marc Ambinder:

Mehlman arrived at this conclusion about his identity fairly recently, he said in an interview. He agreed to answer a reporter's questions, he said, because, now in private life, he wants to become an advocate for gay marriage and anticipated that questions would be asked about his participation in a late-September fundraiser for the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER), the group that supported the legal challenge to California's ballot initiative against gay marriage, Proposition 8.

"It's taken me 43 years to get comfortable with this part of my life," Mehlman said. "Everybody has their own path to travel, their own journey, and for me, over the past few months, I've told my family, friends, former colleagues, and current colleagues, and they've been wonderful and supportive. The process has been something that's made me a happier and better person. It's something I wish I had done years ago."

I heard it right here!:scared:

It's 9/11 for Gays! They learn their evil ways in Madrasas! The GOP's plans for killing gays was brilliantly laid out by Glenn Beck on his chalkboard!!!!

Really and for True!:scared:

6. Nice try. They're on your team, Pal!
We already have Rip Taylor and Richard Simmons. Those 3 aren't allowed to be gay. We have standards!

5. Oh, for Christ's sake. Why, in the 21st century, is this such a big deal?
I mean, good God, so there's a guy who likes guys more than he likes women?

And there are women out there who like women more than they like guys?

What a fucking SHOCK! Who'd have EVER thought it possible?

Run for the hills; it's the end of the world!

13. To me, it because of what Mehlman did and did not do while he was chairman of the RNC.
It isn't the hypocracy, it's the total lack of conscience. Surely this is born of the self hatred that manifests itself within any oppressed group.

I think he did real harm. Still, I hope he finds redemption.

10. Uh..., don't look now... but there are four other OPs on this topic on Greatest page before yours.
So yes, I suppose some DUers have been discussing this already.

But hey, there are two dozen threads about the Muslim taxi-driver getting stabbed. The mantra here seems to be, when in doubt, repost (and then repost again.) It seems so easy to do a quick check to avoid duplications, but hey, what do I know.

Sorry to be a bit pissy. I've just wasted another hour arguing my bill with AT&T and you were the first target.
